QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor degree in turf management or related field or trades training work related experience in turf management
- Thorough knowledge of general business administration practices and golf course operations practices and procedures as would be acquired through five to seven years similar golf course maintenance experience in progressively responsible positions with a minimum of two years as Assistant Golf Course Superintendent I
- Extensive working knowledge of golf course operations, turf management and practices necessary
- Knowledge of the characteristics, growth habit and proper cultivation of a wide selection of flowering bulbs and annual, biennial and perennial plant materials, including both herbaceous and woody plants
- Knowledge of the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers, soil conditioners and pest control methods and materials
- Must successfully pass state and local pesticide application certification and obtain license within 90 days in this position
- Working knowledge of golf course operations and practices necessary
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
- Responsible for following and completing Senior Assistant Golf Course Superintendent Training Program as outlined in Golf Course Maintenance Operations Manual
- Responsible for daily oversight of Landscape maintenance employees, ensuring crew assignments are completed. Schedule and supervise Landscape Gardeners in the use of the equipment, planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps and automatic controls
- Direct, or assist with supervising the daily operations and maintenance of greenhouse and ornamental landscape nursery facilities
- As required, direct and/or implement the approved plant material design for property and tournament needs
- As required, direct and/or implement the turf (TMP) and landscape (LMP) management schedule and provide staffing assignments for Landscape Department. Develop, or assist in the design of the ornamental arrangement of flowers, shrubs and trees
- Assist with, and ensure the proper trimming and pruning of hedges and shrubbery
- Assist with design, install and maintain low-pressure irrigation systems for landscaping. Supervise and participate in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems
- Supervise and assist in pesticide and fertilizer applications with regard to all areas within the scope of Landscape Department. Operate and calibrate pesticide application equipment. Document and maintain all pesticide and fertilizer applications and records in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, and laws and regulations
- Provide daily supervision of the Landscape Department crew, including assisting with hiring, training, employee safety, employee evaluations and discipline
- Schedule and supervise Landscape Gardeners in the use of the equipment, planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps and automatic controls
- Assist with the development of the Landscape Department budget, and manage respective line items in accordance with budgets while controlling general expenses for the Landscape Department
- Abide by all policies and procedures as stated in the Golf Course Maintenance Operations Manual
- Special Projects or other duties as assigned
Golf Course Agronomics
- Work closely with the Director - Golf Course Maintenance Operations & the TPC Agronomic Department to learn and apply all aspects of the TPC Golf Course Maintenance Operations Policies and Practices
- Assist in the development and implementation of the Turf Management, Landscape Management, and Golf Course Management plans maintenance programs necessary to keep the golf course and landscape grounds in good condition, including the application of pesticides and fertilizers
- Operate within all local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines
- Serve as an environmental steward; actively participate in Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Course education and certification program. Assist with application completion and submission
Finance & Accounting:
- Work closely with the Director - Golf Course Maintenance Operations & the TPC Finance and Accounting Department to learn and apply all aspects of the TPC Finance and Accounting Policies and Practices
- Ensure proper accounting procedures are followed for all maintenance activity, including labor distributions, purchases, and fixed assets. Explain monthly variances from the projected budget to the Director - Golf Course Maintenance Operations
- Assist with maintaining the purchase order system and related invoice logs, which includes coding invoices with appropriate account numbers
- Develop proposed departmental budget for the Director - Golf Course Maintenance Operations’ review and approval. Throughout the year, this individual will be responsible for monitoring and controlling expenses that were pre-approved for projected departmental expenditures
- Make recommendations to Director - Golf Course Maintenance Operations on capital projects as they relate to the golf course and related properties
- Assist the Director - Golf Course Maintenance Operations with record keeping for supplies, daily logs, application records, climatic condition records and personnel records which include verifying departmental staff time cards
- Assist in establishing and maintaining inventories for equipment, parts, irrigation, chemicals, fertilizers, etc
Human Resources & Employees:
- Work closely with the Director - Golf Course Maintenance Operations & the TPC Human Resources Department to learn and apply all aspects of the Human Resources Policies and Practices
- Assist Director - Golf Course Maintenance Operations with selecting, orienting, training, motivating and supervising golf course maintenance staff. Provides Director - Golf Course Maintenance Operations with recommendations concerning personnel matters such as salaries, performance reviews, and terminations. Conduct performance reviews and terminations
- Work closely with the Director - Golf Course Maintenance Operations and assists with planning, scheduling and monitoring the daily golf course maintenance operations, including responsibility for coordinating and assigning work, schedules leaves, and ensures adequate staffing for meeting departmental goals
- Maintain control of employee uniforms, ensuring that employees wear the designated uniform and that their uniforms are kept in good condition and are at all times readily available to employees
- Learn, establish, promote and enforce departmental safety programs and safety practices in accordance with local, state and federal regulations. Train employees in safety procedures and internal procedures. Ensure that departmental employees have a clean, organized, and safe working environment which meets all local, state and federal regulations
- Ensure that all employees are properly trained in safety procedures and employees wear personal protective clothing and/or use protective equipment that complies with established safety operating standards
