What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marine Extern position at TPG Marinas?
The Marine Externship represents an educational strategy that linke the classroom learning experience and student interest with the acquisition of knowledge in an applied work setting. Through direct observation, reflection and evaluation, the goal is for the student to gain an understanding of TPG Marinas work, mission, audience and how theses potentially relate to their educational program of study, as well as TPG Marinas position in the broader industry or field.
The externship will be fulfilled at TPG Marinas Facilities and under the supervision of the Manager. Additional details about the externships are as follows:
- The externship will begin on or shortly after February 24, 2025.
- The student's program requirements are for a minimum of 140 hours. Workweeks should be as consistent as possible to a Monday through Friday schedule.
- The student?s daily routine should conform to the normal work schedule in practice at your business.
- The student will be expected to perform their tasks and keep their time as if they were an employee of your business under the same supervision.
- Work assignments should reflect the abilities and knowledge of the student and not place the student in unsupervised circumstances.
- The Manager will complete a survey that includes a work values rating form at the end of the externship evaluating the student?s performance. We will evaluate the student?s work values such as: practicing shop safety rules & standards, punctuality, dressing appropriately and safely, maintaining a clean shop environment, accepting supervision and following directions, working as part of a team, learning from mistakes, taking initiative, focusing on and executing tasks, and completing projects on time
- The student will be given a weekly time log for record keeping. It is the student?s responsibility to complete these documents and get the supervisor?s signature.
- Students being paid and working under the supervision of TPG Marinas are generally subject to workers? compensation
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. Able to stand for extended periods and occasionally kneel, stoop, bend and twist in tight areas. Comfortability with ladders and confined spaces is required. Ability to work in the elements regularly.
- All candidates must be ready, willing, and able to work a fully flexible work schedule that may include days, nights, weekends and holidays to meet the fluctuating business demands.
- Every job applicant must pass a comprehensive background check. A job offer issued before the completion of a background check shall be contingent upon a positive result. A negative background check may lead to a job offer withdrawal.
