Overview:
The Transmission Pipeline & Storage Engineering (TPSE) team is responsible for the comprehensive engineering, design, execution, and closeout of projects within the Asset Relocation Transmission funding program, specifically focused on natural gas transmission pipelines. Additionally, TPSE leads engineering and design efforts for projects supporting Gas Storage Engineering within natural gas storage facilities. The team maintains standard work processes and documentation, develops new procedures, and drives continuous improvement initiatives through structured problem-solving methodologies.
Position Summary:
As a Mechanical Engineer within the TPSE team, you will contribute to the development, design, and execution of new capital asset installations. You will collaborate with fellow engineers and technicians on moderately complex projects, ensuring adherence to all relevant safety standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, maintain, implement, and improve mechanical instruments, facilities, components, equipment, products, or systems.
- Perform a range of engineering tasks utilizing computer-assisted design (CAD) or engineering software and tools.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products.
- Develop mechanical specifications and technical drawings to ensure installations and operations align with industry standards and customer requirements.
- Establish construction, manufacturing, and installation standards through detailed calculations and analysis.
- Oversee and coordinate installation, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, documentation, support, or testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer expectations.
- Prepare reports and compile data related to current and prospective mechanical engineering projects and studies.
- Develop equipment and material specifications for procurement and estimate costs for labor, materials, and construction to support budget preparation.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to meet organizational needs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with mechanical and technical proficiency.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook) and Bentley ProjectWise, with the ability to learn new software.
- Experience with computer-assisted design (CAD) software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
- Knowledge of natural gas transmission facility design, construction, or operations.
- Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards, including 49 CFR Part 192 (Transportation of Natural Gas and Other Gas by Pipeline: Minimum Federal Safety Standards), ASME B31.8 (Gas Transmission & Distribution Piping Systems), and the Michigan Gas Safety Standards.
