Mechanical Engineer
Contract Duration: Until 10/01/2025 (High likelihood of extension)
Location: Jackson, MI (Hybrid - 3 days onsite, 2 days remote or field work)
Job Summary:
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to join our Measurement Engineering team, a sub-department within Gas Engineering under the Regulation and Controls group. The role primarily focuses on the engineering and design of gas measurement facilities within the CMS pipeline system and interconnects with third-party systems. Responsibilities include equipment selection, metering, and analysis system design, as well as piping layout and facility design. This position requires strong engineering skills and a working knowledge of gas measurement regulations and codes.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop gas measurement facilities, including piping layout and the integration of facility piping.
- Develop and implement new standards and specifications for measurement engineering.
- Conduct field visits throughout the month to scope job modifications and upgrades.
- Work with designers to create CAD layouts (no direct CAD work required).
- Utilize Gas Calc and Flow Cal measurement software for calculations and system analysis.
- Ensure compliance with applicable gas measurement regulations and industry standards.
- Manage multiple projects (approximately six) at various phases simultaneously.
- Coordinate with field leaders to analyze engineering scope during the design process.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred) or related field.
- 2 years of mechanical piping design experience (natural gas piping preferred, but experience in ASME steam or generation plants will be considered).
- Experience in gas facility design, including metering installations and chromatography.
- Strong understanding of gas codes and measurement engineering practices.
- Experience in sizing measurement equipment for gas metering applications.
- Ability to work with designers to develop station piping layouts and measurement facility designs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
- Candidates with backgrounds in electrical engineering, design, or upstream oil and gas (reservoir engineers, drilling/well engineers) may be considered if they have relevant and sufficient experience in gas pipeline engineering, gas facilities/piping layouts, or engineering gas measurement equipment within gas facilities.
Work Environment & Schedule:
- Hybrid work model: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday onsite at the nearest facility.
- Field visits as needed (travel across Michigan, from Northern Michigan to the Indiana border).
