TPI is seeking a skilled Heidelberg Press Operator for a part-time role to support our 2nd shift Pressroom operations in Pennsauken, NJ.
Schedule: Two weeks per month
Shift Options: 3:00 PM – 10:00 PM or 5:00 PM – 11:00 PM
Position Summary: The Heidelberg Press Operator plays a critical role in TPI’s high-volume print production, ensuring precise and efficient operation of the Heidelberg Speedmaster offset press. This role is responsible for the setup, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the press, ensuring precision, efficiency, and superior print quality. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, expert color control skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced production environment. This is a critical role in ensuring that TPI delivers high-quality print products on time while maintaining industry standards and customer expectations.
Essential Functions
- Set up and operate Heidelberg 4-Color Speedmaster Offset Press according to job specifications and production schedules.
- Prepare and install printing plates, rollers, blankets, and components, ensuring precise alignment and calibration.
- Adjust press settings (speed, ink flow, water balance, pressure, and registration) to maintain color accuracy and print quality.
- Monitor press operations and conduct real-time adjustments to maintain ink density, registration, and clarity.
- Perform press checks and color matching to meet client and internal quality standards.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and print-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime and efficient operation.
- Conduct routine press maintenance, including lubrication, cleaning, and minor repairs to optimize performance.
- Manage ink levels, load paper stock, and ensure efficient material usage.
- Collaborate with prepress, production staff, and finishing teams to ensure seamless workflow and on-time delivery.
- Follow all safety protocols and compliance procedures to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
Requirements
- 3 years of experience operating a Heidelberg 4-Color Speedmaster Press or other similar offset presses.
- Strong understanding of offset printing techniques, ink management, and press mechanics.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and printing issues efficiently in a fast-paced production setting.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and quality control.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform routine maintenance on the press.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively to meet production deadlines.
Preferred Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 5 years of experience in offset press operations, with expertise in Heidelberg Speedmaster presses.
- Experience working with aqueous coatings, UV coatings, and perforation operations.
- Familiarity with prepress workflows, color management systems, and print production planning
- Knowledge of workflow automation and print management software.
Physical Demands: Standing for extended periods and frequent lifting of up to 25 lbs. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. Pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs. to move palletized load. Frequent reaching, twisting, and gripping up to 25 lbs. to move paper stock. Occasional crouching and use of hand tools during press maintenance. Continuous work in areas containing odors from inks, solvents, and lubricants.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Typical hours are Monday through Friday. 1st shift is 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; 2nd shift is 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.; 3rd shift is 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Weekend hours may be required during peak production times. This position typically works 40-50 hours per week.
The pay range for this position is $24-$30 per hour plus an additional 7% per hour for shift differential. Compensation is dependent on experience and industry knowledge.
