TRABUS is seeking a dynamic and innovative Product Owner to lead our cutting-edge AI-based Maintenance Availability and Resource Planning (MARP) software project. This project focuses on providing lifecycle maintenance planning for the next generation COLUMBIA class submarine, ensuring optimal usage of resources and providing maximum readiness of the fleet. If selected, the Product Owner will be involved with the technical team that is developing the next generation of AI-based maintenance modeling software products and interfacing with NAVSEA’s PMS 397 and the associated R&D stakeholders. The Product Owner will help transition the research and development modeling efforts into a MVP (Minimum Viable Product) and eventually, future development and deployment of a mature software product. The successful candidate will work closely with the Chief Data Scientist of the project at TRABUS, cross-functional teams within both TRABUS and of the Navy’s PMS 397, Navy R&D stakeholders, and subject matter experts to develop and launch a successful predictive analytics product that meets the unique demands.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Define, prioritize, and manage the product backlog, ensuring it aligns with TRABUS’ business goals, customer needs, and technical feasibility.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (including engineers, data scientists, designers, and subject matter experts) to plan, develop, and deliver high-quality AI-based maintenance software solutions for the Navy’s Trident Refit Facilities (TRF).
- Engage with Navy stakeholders and the TRFs to understand their needs, gather requirements, and iteratively refine the product backlog to ensure it addresses those needs effectively. This includes travel to Navy facilities to engage with users/stakeholders on requirements and to report ongoing software development work at TRABUS.
- Oversee all aspects of the product development lifecycle, ensuring timely delivery, high quality, and adherence to project budgets.
- Provide clear and concise communication to internal teams, stakeholders, and navy ship maintenance teams about the product roadmap, milestones, and progress.
- Utilize data analytics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to keep track of the development of the MVP and the final product.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and competitor offerings in the field of AI-based maintenance resource planning for naval ships, identifying opportunities for differentiation and continuous improvement.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning within the product team, promoting best practices in agile methodologies and product development principles.
- Adhere to company values, policies, and procedures while maintaining a high level of professionalism and integrity in all interactions with internal teams, stakeholders, and TRF teams.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Former Navy and familiarity with submarine maintenance processes and procedures is a strong advantage.
- 5 years of proven experience as a Product Owner or similar role within the software development industry, ideally with experience in AI-based software development projects.
- Solid understanding of agile methodologies, Scrum framework, and Kanban principles.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to use data effectively to inform product decisions. Familiarity with SQL and data wrangling skills in Python will be a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely, between internal technical team, Navy stakeholders and customers.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders to deliver high-quality products on time and within budget.
- Proficiency in product management tools such as JIRA, Trello, Notion, Asana or similar platforms.
- Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and the ability to handle multiple priorities effectively.
- Passion for staying current with emerging AI and programming technologies, industry trends, and best practices in software development and product management.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems; advanced degrees and relevant certifications (such as Certified Scrum Product Owner or Professional Scrum Product Owner) are a plus.
