Manufacturing Engineer/Programmer Job Overview: Provide engineering support for plant CNC operations and communicate with the Manufacturing Engineer Manager regarding CNC program needs.
Responsibilities
- Process Planning:
- Determine the best machine based on efficiency, availability, and contingency planning.
- Define operation steps and sequences, including part zero establishment and feature machining order.
- Identify critical attributes for in-process inspection.
- Determine the best work holding methods and create setup details for each operation.
- Tooling:
- Ensure required tools are available and utilize appropriate technology.
- Order special tooling if necessary and gather costs for tooling.
- Create tool lists for each operation and find competitive solutions for custom tooling.
- Inspection:
- Ensure all required inspection tools are available.
- Purchase special items if needed for feature inspection.
- Communicate with quality assurance to ensure standards are met.
- Programming:
- Develop productive CNC programs in collaboration with the Manufacturing Engineer Manager.
- Negotiate starting feed/speed parameters and work with setup machinists to proof out programs.
- Modify programs as needed to achieve efficiency while maintaining tool life.
- Serve as the main communication source between machinists and the programming office.
- Project Support:
- Generate manufacturing methodologies and gather upfront data to optimize project startup.
- Plan sequences of operations for machining and assembly based on customer orders.
- Specify, design, and procure special tooling or equipment within budgeted cost and time.
- Program CNC machines to produce desired products effectively and efficiently.
- Problem Solving:
- Interpret drawings and specifications to resolve technical issues.
- Communicate with customers, both in the office and on the shop floor.
- Monitor project costs to prevent overruns and address issues promptly.
- Communication:
- Facilitate resolution of manufacturing and quality issues across departments.
- Communicate schedule-related items to relevant departments and identify needs for special actions when necessary.

- Associate degree or equivalent job experience in CNC Machining/Programming.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the field.
- Strong manufacturing skills.
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM.
- Ability to read blueprints, including GD&T.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience with FeatureCam and SolidWorks is a plus.
