Situated within International Operations, TIQ has offices in San Francisco and New York and is strategically placed in the North America market to create export opportunities and investment promotions for Queensland across key priority sectors, with a focus on international education and training, mining, energy and resources, food and agribusiness, manufacturing, health, innovation and technology.
About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Queensland Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner – Americas, you will be responsible for identifying, promoting, supporting and facilitating Queensland organisations to seek trade and investment opportunities within the key priority sectors, and working with Study Queensland to focus predominately on international education, training and research. You will also be required to amplify, build and support Queensland education and training providers, leaders and their global partners in corporate research and development centres around the world and leverage funding opportunities.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities
To be successful in this role you will :
- Develop, plan and manage the implementation to attract world-class talent and new investment opportunities into Queensland’s education and research sector by working collaboratively with relevant Queensland Government agencies, universities, research organisations and businesses.
- Develop and create partnerships with the corporate sectors to accelerate the commercialization of Queensland research and science.
- Engage strategically with key Queensland stakeholders to plan and deliver initiatives and events in-market to promote Queensland’s research excellence and facilitate research and industry partnerships.
- Provide strategic and operational advice to inform focused activities to develop research-industry partnerships relevant to Queensland’s key / emerging industries and priority research fields. This will include linking Queensland science to the in-market corporate sector and their local university partners to help take new ideas and technology developed in Queensland closer to market.
- Identify opportunities and support Queensland education and training providers to leverage funding opportunities.
- Support linkages between people and organisations from the Queensland research, science and innovation ecosystem to partners in corporate research and development centers around the world.
- Conduct research, maintain market awareness and brief accordingly on :
- Significant developments in the economic and business environment that impacts on the Queensland Government and Queensland university research sector.
- Shifts in the region’s Government policy, education and training policy, research and development policy, skills shortages and other commercial opportunities.
- Assist senior representatives from Queensland organisations for outbound and inbound projects and visits, including recommendations of key contacts to include in visit programs to support them to pursue outcomes in research.
- Host and facilitate high-level meetings on behalf of, or between, potential funders, investors and partners and the Queensland clients.
- Identify and recommend commercial research funding and partnering opportunities or initiatives and assist in business / contract negotiation and facilitation of connection to Queensland Government departments and Queensland Clients.
- Establish and maintain effective high-level relationships with Trade and Investment Queensland’s Study Queensland, Investment, International Markets and Sector teams.
- Work collaboratively with Queensland Government agencies, including Innovation, Department of Environment and Science and Queensland Health, to support strategic outcomes in key priority sectors.
