We are looking for a proactive, hands-on Health & Safety Specialist to champion a strong safety culture within our industrial operations in East Chicago, IN. This role is deeply embedded in daily plant activities, requiring a visible and engaged presence to implement safety policies, training , and compliance initiatives for a workforce of over 160 employees.
As a boots-on-the-ground specialist , you will collaborate closely with Operations teams to drive safety awareness, mitigate risks, and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements . Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential to influence and engage employees at all levels, fostering a workplace where safety is a top priority .
Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, this position will build strong partnerships with internal teams and external stakeholders, including auditors, contractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Policies & Programs :
- Promote a strong safety culture by actively participating in safety meetings, training, and daily workplace activities.
- Ensure safety policies and procedures are followed, review emergency response plans, and identify ways to reduce risks.

Record Keeping & Reporting :
Operations Support & Continuous Improvement :
Safety Communication & Committees :
Required Qualifications
Education : BS / BA and a professional certification relating to Health and Safety is preferred.
Experience : Candidates must have proven experience in Health and Safety with a minimum of 1 year of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
Skills :
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
Attention to detail, with keen observation and investigation skills.
Other Requirements : Ability to remain on foot for the entire work shift.
Work Environment
On-site plant position with some office work. No hybrid option available.
