As the Plant Logistics Manager, you’ll take the lead in ensuring outbound materials leave our facility smoothly, safely, and cost-effectively. You’ll oversee a dedicated team, including a Transportation Coordinator and 8–10 company drivers, while playing a key role in streamlining logistics operations.
This is a highly collaborative role that involves daily interaction with internal departments and coordination with external carriers, vendors, and contractors. This full-time, on-site position is based in East Chicago, IN, and reports directly to the Director of Disposal Outlets and Operations Improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and direct the plant’s Transportation Coordinator and a team of 8–10 company drivers.
- Manager and coordinate the movement of trailers between transfer yards and the plant.
- Compile trailer information and status at both the plant and transfer yards; complete the daily trailer report.
- Coordinate and schedule outbound shipments, coordinating with internal trucks, external carriers, railroads, production and shipping personnel, intercompany partners, and third-party disposal outlets.
- Collaborate with internal transportation and maintenance personnel to ensure proper maintenance of trucks and trailers.
- Maximize utilization of internal transportation assets, including: tractors, tankers, van trailers, roll-off chassis, and end dumps
- Manage and track the railcar fleet; coordinate movement to disposal outlets and to cleaning/maintenance vendors.
- Address basic issues under direct supervision and escalate more complex issues to appropriate staff.
Do you have what it takes?
Experience
- 1-3 years of logistics experience – preferrably in an industrial setting/environment
- Experience in truck and rail logistics
- Experience in hazardous materials/chemical/environmental industries
Skills
- Ability to learn different 3rd party software solutions used to maximize efficiency of railcar and trailer fleets
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
