What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shipping Supervisor position at Traditions?
Traditions® Performance Firearms is looking for a Shipping Supervisor to join their team!
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of shipping professionals while maintaining productivity, positive attitude, and overall understanding of company goals and initiatives.
- Develop standardized business processes in the shipping department and work to improve our on time delivery and shipping accuracy.
- Suggest/develop efficiency ideas, cost reduction measures and assists with the implementation of changes.
- Identify problems and propose solutions to other members of management. Promote cooperation with other departments.
- Help manage the daily workload, staffing and safety of the shipping department.
- Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
- Ensure warehouse, truck and premises security. Evaluate and apply consistent performance, safety, attendance and work rule/contract discipline in accordance with company policies.
- Maintain associate relations through regular department or pre-shift meetings; maintain on-going interaction; keep open communication channels with associates by answering questions and explaining policies and procedures; submit and respond to ideas to improve associate engagement.
- Verify the requirements and compliance with individual vendors routing guides.
- Perform the duties of associates supervised and other related duties as needed included but not limited to:
- Compare identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
- Determine method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates and working with carriers if necessary.
- Package shipments according to customer specifications or set standards.
- Accurately and efficiently process orders/shipments through StarShip.
- Prepare documents such as bill of ladings and shipping orders to route material.
- Accurately process all paperwork including international shipments and EDI for orders requiring EDI transmission.
- Operate tier-lift truck or use hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping-and-receiving platform to storage or work area.
- Help with investigation of shortages/overages, lost/damage claims.
- Follow all safety rules and make sure the department maintains a clear and tidy work area.
- Regular attendance is required.
- May occasionally be required to work overtime.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 year shipping experience.
- Minimum of 1 year supervisor experience.
- Ability to lift 65 lbs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Strong organizational and communication skills, detail oriented.
- Possess excellent leadership skills and the ability to work with/train others.
- Ability to adapt and provide fast response to changes.
- Positive attitude and willingness to work as a team member.
- Have experience with EDI and transportation management systems.
