Driving Safety Superintendent

Traffic Control Devices is continuing to expand and is hiring a Driving Safety Superintendent. This is a full-time salary position and requires candidates to be responsible team players who can multitask and provide assistance to the safety departments of the company. You will be required to travel within your area of responsibility with a company-provided vehicle and fuel card, manage the Driver Certification Portal, and conduct driver training as part of the onboarding of new employees as well as retraining current employees, as needed.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Implement fleet management metrics and policies.
  • Monitor driving metrics from fleet program and assist leadership with corrective action.
  • Maintain accurate records of all drivers.
  • Conduct driving behavior audits on assigned drivers.
  • Conduct annual refresher driver training.
  • Collaborate with drivers and other departments to optimize fleet operations.
  • Assist the Driving Safety Manager and the Regional Safety Superintendents & Trainers with motor vehicle incidents investigations, training, and driving program improvements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Strong knowledge of the local, state, and federal safety laws and regulations, including OSHA, related to motor vehicles and general safety.
  • Prior defensive driver trainer experience, ex) Smith System or National Safety Council.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, training, and organizational skills.
  • Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to audit job sites including climbing ladders, working at heights or enclosed spaces, and in extreme temperatures.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and can analyze and interpret regulations and other documents.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Education & Experience

  • 2-year Degree in Safety-related field OR equivalent field experience required.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certified Instructor or obtainable within 90 days.

Pre-Screen

  • Upon offer, employees may be required to subject and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background and/or MVR check.

License & Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license required.

Travel Requirements:

  • Potential travel required for temporary backup needs at other office locations.

Safety:

Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally.
