Job Overview
The Safety Director is responsible for overseeing and implementing safety programs and policies to ensure a safe working environment for all employees. This role requires a proactive approach to identify potential hazards, develop training programs, and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations. The Safety Director will work closely with management and staff to promote a culture of safety within the organization.
Duties
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs in accordance with OSHA/ DOT regulations and industry best practices.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Lead investigations into workplace incidents, performing root cause analysis to prevent future occurrences.
- Provide training development for employees on safety protocols, including CPR and first aid procedures.
- Prepare detailed reports on safety performance metrics, incidents, and compliance issues for management review.
- Collaborate with various departments to ensure adherence to environmental regulations set forth by the EPA.
- Manage workers' compensation claims and liaise with insurance providers regarding workplace injuries.
- Stay updated on changes in workers' compensation law and EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) regulations.
- Facilitate workshops and training sessions to enhance employee awareness of safety practices.
- Fabricate or modify equipment as necessary to improve workplace safety.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a safety management role or similar position within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of workers' compensation laws, OSHA regulations, EPA standards, and EHS principles.
- Excellent report writing skills with the ability to communicate complex information clearly.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid is preferred; additional safety certifications are a plus.
- Demonstrated ability in training development and delivering effective safety training programs.
- Strong analytical skills for conducting root cause analysis of incidents.
- Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments while maintaining a strong focus on safety initiatives.
