Are you an outdoor expert looking for a way to give back to your community or a nature enthusiast with a passion for inspiring youth through the outdoors and the arts?
BAM! is looking for creative and passionate candidates to contribute to our Nature & Art Adventure Series. Paid contract or volunteer positions are available. This initiative combines outdoor and art education with a goal to connect underserved and LGBTQ2S youth with nature, inspire conservation and connection. The program is open to all youth aged 12-21, targeting underserved populations in Mesa County, many of whom live in rural and socially isolated areas.
The Nature Guides will assist in planning and facilitating events with safety, inclusion and youth engagement as a focus. They will work in partnership with educators and artists. They ensure a safe, welcoming, and fun experience for youth, while following established safety and environmental protocols.
Nature Guides will need to be available for at least 2 of the following outdoor events:
1. Stargazing & Storytelling at Moon Rock
June 27, 2025 6:30PM - 10:30PM
A night under the stars at Moon Rock in the Colorado National Monument. The youth will explore constellations, share astrology stories, and create skits inspired by the night sky.
2. Survival Skills & S’mores Overnight
August 1–2, 2025
Youth will be learning the basics of outdoor survival skills, such as fire safety and shelter building. Afterward, we’ll relax with s’mores, storytelling, and a night of camping under the stars.
3. Plein-Air Painting on the Grand Mesa
September 27, 2025
Plein Air painting outdoors in the fall colors on the Grand Mesa with youth.
4. Nature & Art Reflection Day
October 11, 2025
The youth will spend the day creating art based on their experiences in nature. They will choose from any medium, such as painting, sculpture, or writing. This workshop will be guided by our Nature Artist mentors to explore how the outdoors influence the youths’ creativity.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and co-leading outdoor adventures
- Support implementation of activities with a focus on safety, youth engagement, and inclusion
- Follow established risk management and outdoor education best practices
Ideal Candidate
- Enthusiastic about nature, youth development, and inclusive outdoor education.
- Experience working with young people, especially those from diverse backgrounds.
- Comfortable guiding groups in outdoor environments.
- Knowledgeable in basic first aid, Leave No Trace principles, and risk management.
Schedule & Compensation
- Seasonal Work: Events listed above with additional planning dates to be determined
- Hours: May vary depending on event
Compensation: Up to $40.00 based on experience or volunteer!
