Position Summary (must have supervisory experience in the food manufacturing / beverage industry)
5-day M-F work schedule, including weekends as needed . Standard 8-10 hr. shift, or as needed to ensure daily production plan is achieved.
Salary starting at $59,000 / yr. with options for 100% paid medical insurance and eligibility in company bonus plan. This is a salaried, exempt role.
The Production Supervisor is a hands-on supervisor leading up to 15 production employees in a cooking and packaging environment with various products such as jams, jellies, syrups, pie fillings and packaged coconut products. In coordination with the Manufacturing Manager, assigns work to permanent and temporary team members and ensures new hire and training needs are met.
Drawing on prior supervisory and production experience, there is a need for practical, hands-on engagement with different production line processes, techniques, equipment, and operational procedures. This role involves managing an effective plant startup and/or shift changeover in the afternoon and may oversee the end-of-shift shutdown and cleaning operations before sanitation. Additionally, the position requires hands-on learning and comprehending all facets of the daily processes. This position reports directly the manufacturing manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Maintain reliable attendance, including overtime as needed.
- As needed, cover shift for vacations or time off (cover Supervisor for the opposite shift schedule).
- Supervise and coordinates food production activities, planning work schedules and assignments to meet production goals.
- Balance product flow from cook deck, through all process to prevent line backups and bottle necks.
- Knowledgeable of production KPI’s including; OEE, Schedule Adherence and Attainment, First Pass Quality, Waste/Yield.
- Ensures all FDA, HACCP, SQF, OSHA compliance, ensuring safety and regulatory processes are followed.
- Required training/certification in Better Process Control standards for food production and acidified products (online training will be provided for certification).
- Sets clear expectations and goals for team members, provides training and support for team, measuring and monitoring performance against goal and objectives and providing feedback, mentoring and support.
- Provide employee coaching and development and resolving employee issues through problem resolution.
- Involved in interviewing and onboarding of new hires.
- Balancing quality, productivity, cost, safety, and morale to achieve positive results in all areas of the manufacturing process during the shift.
- Collaborate with Sanitation, Quality, Maintenance and Warehouse leadership.
- Prepares and maintains production reports and other plant and employee documentation.
- Ensure proper training of cooks, assistants, operators and production line workers.
- Performing accident investigations and participate in monthly safety committee meetings.
- Reviews and approves full time and temporary team member’s hours, sick and vacation requests, daily.
- Administering coaching and progressive disciplinary action as needed per the company handbook and attendance policy.
- Learn operations and setup of production equipment.
- Learn basic troubleshooting techniques for wastewater treatment.
- Stand up forklift certification required (onsite training will be provided).
- Performing all other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- High school diploma or GED required, plus 2 to 4 years of related supervisory / leadership experience food or beverage manufacturing processes.
- Previous experience in management, including supervision, employee hiring and retention, performance reviews, employee development, and discipline.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Quality orientation and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a strong team-building skills.
- Knowledge and training in Better Process Control standards for food production and acidified products.
- An ability to manage multiple priorities and production lines.
