Host / Hostess
Job Definition:
Under the direction and guidance of the Food & Beverage Manager, Host is responsible for managing the guest reservation / table management system, welcoming/greeting guests, escorting guests to their tables, and presenting menus. Hosts will also coordinate with service staff to ensure a smooth sequence of service, thank guests prior to their departure, and handle all pre-arrival / departure sequencing.
Duties & Functions:
- Take pride in being the first point of contact (in person and on the telephone) for the restaurant.
- Manage the table management / reservations system(s) to ensure restaurant optimization for experience and revenue.
- Review all external marketing materials (website, google, Yelp!, Tripadvisor, etc.) to ensure correct menus, hours of operation, contact info, etc. are listed.
- Review all guest feedback and summarize for staff and management to review daily.
- Communicate reservation info (names, allergies, happenings, VIPs, etc.) to service staff, kitchen, and Managers.
- Manage guest flow into the restaurant by promoting bar patronage and never seating guests at a pace that doesn’t allow for proper servicing.
- Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards.
- Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment including cleaning requirements. Use equipment only as intended.
- Answer questions on menu, hours of operation, group dining, parking, policies and procedures to guests.
- Call guests to confirm reservations if/when appropriate.
- Maintain cleanliness of work area, host stand, coat check/hanging, etc., throughout the day.
- Complete closing duties, including restocking items, turning off lights, etc.
- Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional.
- Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards.
- Anticipate and address guests` service needs.
- Speak with others using clear and professional language.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others and support your team to reach common goals.
- Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards.
- Thank guests with genuine appreciation.
- Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by Supervisors.
Specific Job Knowledge & Skills:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- College Degree or equivalent in Business, Hospitality, or related field preferred
- One to two years in a public contact position in an upscale restaurant or lifestyle brand hotel
- Strong English verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with computer skills.
- Positive and productive working relationships with entire staff of the property.
- Passion for gracious, friendly, and fun customer service
Physical Abilities:
- Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 20 pounds without assistance
- Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity
- Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift
- Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping
