SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Fitness and Wellness Supervisor, the personal trainer is responsible for working with clients on an individual or small group basis to help them meet their fitness goals by developing personalized exercise programs and assisting them during their workouts in a motivational and friendly atmosphere.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Evaluate client fitness needs and skillset to plan reachable goals
- Perform basic fitness assessment including, but not limited to, body composition, flexibility and circumference measurements
- Obtain and maintain accurate client files including Par-Q, health form, physician release and client notes
- Provide a safe, effective and motivating exercise program that begins and ends on time and progresses through proper warm-up, cardiovascular, strength, muscle balance and cool down
- Instructs and monitors client throughout training, demonstrates exercises and educates on proper techniques and form
- Ability to teach modifications for each exercise to meet any fitness level and abilities
- Ensures that all safety standards are met and that department and facility policies are adhered to
- Must be able to understand and teach target and recovery heart rates and a participant’s RPE
- Stay current on industry trends and latest research
- Must possess teamwork abilities and be willing to help other trainers when needed
- Practice good personal health and fitness habits
- Dress and appearance are consistent with department standards including professionalism and personal hygiene.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings
- Carries out first aid or emergency procedures as needed
- Maintain communication with Fitness & Wellness management regarding equipment needs, patron concerns and incidents/accidents during class
- Promote various APRD/TRC recreation programs through client/small group interactions
- Maintain current certifications in CPR, First Aid and Personal Training
- Must maintain a positive and friendly attitude while engaged in stressful and/or controversial situations with patrons and co-workers
- Establishes and maintains a working environment conducive to positive morale, individual style, quality, creativity and teamwork.
- Complies with department and District rules and regulations, policies and procedures
- Performs various other duties as assigned

- Ability to work independently and interact with people of all ages and abilities
- Basic knowledge of anatomy, exercise physiology, kinesiology, the mechanical functions of the body and injury prevention;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all staff and general public
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Possess skills to maintain a safe environment, as well as performing quality work
- Ability to understand, comprehend and follow all policies and procedures as well as verbalized and written instructions directed by management
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Required to walk, stand, sit, use hands to finger, handle, feel and reach with hands and arms
- Required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds unassisted and assist clients
- Ability to demonstrate all fitness equipment
- Ability to talk and/or hear patrons, managers and co-workers
- Ability to see objects closely and at a distance
- Must have a high degree of energy, be physically fit, and have the endurance to complete the workout.
- Ability to deal with moderate to high stress situations at times and maintain a positive attitude

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology or closely related field
- One (1) year experience in personal training and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Current National Personal Training Certification/ACE, ACSM, AFAA, or NSCA; CPR/First Aid Certification
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including mornings, evening and weekends
Salary : $22 - $33
