SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Cultural Arts Supervisor, the Dance Instructor provides an enjoyable and safe dance experience for an assigned group of children and adults creating a positive environment that allows creative expression. Class formats include, but are not limited to, Parent/Tot, Creative Movement, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop or Poms.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead scheduled dance classes beginning and ending on time including 15 minute preparation before all classes.
- Assist in the development of dance programs including, but not limited to lesson plans, class standards and creation of new dance courses conducive to recreational formats.
- Prepare appropriate music and choreography for style and level of classes.
- Ensure that safety standards are met and that department and facility policies are adhered to.
- Maintain communication with Cultural Arts Department management regarding equipment needs, patron concerns and incidents/accidents during class. Assist with accident reports as needed.
- Inspects and maintains cleanliness, safety and general appearance of the dance studio/classroom and all equipment.
- Establishes and maintains a working environment conducive to positive morale, individual style, quality, creativity and teamwork.
- Dress and appearance are consistent with department standards including professionalism and personal hygiene.
- Participation in all mandatory department staff meetings and trainings.
- Promote various TPRD recreation sponsored programs through classes.

- Complies with District rules and regulations and policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all staff and general public.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

- Possess skills to maintain a safe environment, as well as performing quality work.
- Ability to understand, comprehend and follow all policies and procedures as well as verbalized and written instructions directed by management.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds unassisted.
- Ability to talk and/or hear patrons, managers and co-workers.
- Ability to see objects closely and at a distance.
- Ability to deal with moderate to high stress situations at times and maintain a positive attitude.

Salary Range: $19.00-$24.70 DOE
Status: Part Time, Non-Exempt
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education in Dance technique, choreography, theory or a related field.
- One year related instructional experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be able to effectively teach by demonstration, explanation and positive critique.
- Youth program experience a must when working with youth programming.
- Ability to modify dance programs for special populations.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends and special events.
