SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Parks Maintenance Technician, the Park Maintenance Assistant is responsible for assisting the full-time parks staff in the upkeep and maintenance of our park grounds, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for visitors. This includes, but is not limited to, landscaping, trash removal, facility maintenance, and basic repair work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist Park Maintenance staff with pruning of trees, shrubs, and perennials as needed.
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness by collecting litter, emptying trash bins, and ensuring restroom facilities are clean and stocked.
- Assist Park Maintenance staff with playground inspections.
- Assist in minor repairs and upkeep of park infrastructure, including benches, fences, signage, and playground equipment.
- Collaborate with park staff to identify maintenance needs and prioritize tasks accordingly.
- Operate and maintain landscaping equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
- Uphold safety standards and regulations to ensure a secure environment for park visitors.
- Support special events and projects as needed, including setup and cleanup.
- Assist with snow removal in winter months. 2:00 am-10:00 am when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Understanding of basic landscaping techniques, including planting, pruning, and fertilizing.
- Knowledge of grounds maintenance practices, such as irrigation system operation and pest control methods.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with employees and the public.
- Highly motivated with ability to take direction well.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to operate a pickup truck/trailer.
- Ability to work productively without supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to perform tasks that require frequent walking, standing, bending, and kneeling.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, unassisted.
- Stamina and endurance to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity.
- Physical agility and dexterity to operate landscaping equipment and perform manual labor tasks with precision and safety.
- Comfort working with heights, such as when pruning trees or performing maintenance on elevated structures.
- Ability to navigate uneven terrain and slopes while maintaining balance and stability.

FLSA Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $17.50-$22/hr
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Drivers License with clean driving record.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous landscaping experience.
- Knowledge of basic landscaping techniques and grounds maintenance practices.
- Knowledge of irrigation, installation, maintenance, and repairs.
