Summary / Objective
Under general supervision from the Executive Director, Project Manager and Operations Supervisors for Trans Jordan Landfill performs servicing and maintenance on all landfill heavy equipment, large trucks, pickup trucks cars, and miscellaneous equipment.
Duties / Responsibilities
- Performs weekly preventative maintenance service and lubrication on landfill equipment and vehicles; inspects equipment to replace parts and accessories by established schedules or according to time mileage standards
- Diagnose and repairs problems on equipment using computer-based software and / or personal trade skill / assessment
- Removes, disassembles / reassembles, adjusts, and / or replaces defective parts using proper tools and instruments
- Assists and follows up on work done by contract mechanics such as Wheeler Machinery
- Takes oil samples on transmissions, engines, final drives, differentials, hydraulic systems and cooling systems to be sent out for testing to determine wear or usage of internal parts
- Follows established preventative maintenance program, in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications, for all vehicles and equipment
- Maintains records on all maintenance, repair, modification, and fabrication done on vehicles, equipment, and machinery
- Orders (and picks up if necessary) parts needed for repairs on equipment
- Keeps supplies (oils, grease, antifreeze, filters, tools, etc.) stocked as required for daily operation of all landfill equipment and vehicles ensuring that accurate inventory is kept so that unnecessary funds are not spent
- Responsible for changing blades and cutting edges on dozers, compactors, etc.; cuts off worn and welds on new compactor teeth on compactor wheels
- Performs welding on equipment, and metal fabrication when necessary
- Operates tire change machine and repairs flat tires on small vehicles when necessary
- Fuels large equipment on site
- Drives large equipment as required for servicing and diagnostic purposes
- Utilizes work order program to ensure tasks are done according to priorities established
- Inspects, tests, and diagnoses power equipment for mechanical performance and / or malfunction
- Ensures that all fluids and chemicals used are handled and stored according to OSHA standards, including SDS information given to the Compliance Coordinator
- Performs inspections, with corresponding paperwork, for tasks and areas in the shop such as truck crane, general shop safety checklists, etc.
- Frequently performs housekeeping and organizational duties to ensure that the shop and service trucks are kept in a manner to meet and exceed OSHA standards

Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or equivalent.Three (3) to four (4) years’ experience as a service mechanic on heavy equipment, large trucks, and pickups (or any equivalent combination of education and experience)Previous experience as an equipment operator desirable.Must have previous experience as a welder (Welding Certification a plus)Special Requirements
Must have a valid CDL Utah Drivers’ License (Class B or higher) within six (6) months of hire and remain insurable.Must pass a Trans-Jordan Physical, Drug Screen, and Background CheckMay be called upon for emergency responseNecessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

This position may include frequent lifting up to 35 lbs, occasional lifting up to 50 lbs and carry 35 lbs up to 100 feetThis position requires that the person stand continuously and sit or walk with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, and working on irregular surfaces and uneven ground ; a full range of motion in the shoulders, arms, hands, wrists, legs, and feet; and manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; visual acuity as needed to inspect loadsMust work in extreme outside weather conditions (i.e. hot, cold, dampness, wind) with constant exposure to traffic hazards, noise, dust, fumes, grease and unsanitary conditionsEssential Functions
Essential functions of this position include the ability to effectively and safely perform the duties listed above for a full shift (40 hours per week). The position works outside in extreme weather conditions.
