As a Fiber Technician / Cable Installer, you will play a key role in installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and splicing fiber optic and cable systems in both residential and commercial environments. This role involves a combination of fiber optic and cable installation duties, ensuring all systems meet quality standards and customer specifications. You will also provide exceptional customer service and support in both inside and outside plant environments.
Cable Installer - Essential job duties include:
- Perform new connects, reconnects, upgrades and disconnects for residential broadband and television services.
- Troubleshoot service up to the house standards and specifications.
- Installations could include adding routers and set top boxes and interior and exterior wiring paths.
- Provide first-class customer service including detailed customer education about product.
- Supports, complies with, and participates in the safety program.
- Safely navigate in sometimes tight spaces.
- Ability to lift ladders.
- Performs other duties as needed.
Fiber Tech - Essential job duties include:
- Installs, terminates and troubleshoots fiber cable systems in manholes, aerial plant and on customer sites.
- Installs all types of connectors.
- Performs pigtail and fusion splicing of fiber optic cabling.
- Performs pre and post tests on all installed or existing networks using OTDR and power meter.
- Routes cable in communication room for ISP and OSP.
- Dresses and prepares cable into closures and fan-out and prepare bare fiber.
- Enforces company and customer safety rules, guidelines, policies and procedures.
- Supports, complies with, and participates in HSE Program.
- Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- One year of cable experience required; five years of experience in multiple count fiber splicing preferred.
- Prior customer service experience preferred.
- Familiarity with Apple products desired.
- Experience working in network bays and splice closet installations.
- OSP Passive Optic Network (PON) cabinet and termination panel building experience.
- Fiber optic network experience, including FTTH, is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret construction maps.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to pass a background check, motor vehicle check, and drug screen.
- Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 80 lbs. on a consistent basis.
- OTDR and OLTS testing skills.
- Network troubleshooting skills are essential.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
- Must be willing to travel.
- Ability to obtain a security clearance.
