The Childcare Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in delivering high-quality early childhood education and care. The Assistant Teacher will assist with classroom activities, maintain a safe and engaging environment for children, and help with the daily care routines of the children. The role requires collaboration with other staff to support children’s development and ensure the smooth operation of the classroom. This position is a key part of our team, and must be self-motivated, passionate, and dedicated individual who is committed to fostering the growth and development of young children.
Key Responsibilities:
- Classroom Support:
- Assist the Lead Teacher in the implementation of lesson plans, curriculum, and daily activities.
- Help prepare and organize classroom materials and resources.
- Support children in their play and learning activities, providing guidance and encouragement.
- Assist in managing classroom routines, such as transitions between activities, meals, and nap time.
- Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Child Development:
- Foster positive, supportive relationships with children and provide emotional, social, and educational support.
- Observe and monitor children’s behavior and development, reporting observations to the Lead Teacher.
- Help implement a curriculum that is both developmentally appropriate and aligned with the educational goals of the center.
- Incorporate a variety of teaching strategies, including play-based, hands-on learning activities that support all areas of child development.
- Health and Safety:
- Ensure that children are safe and always accounted for, including during outdoor play, nap time, and transitions.
- Ensure the classroom is clean, organized, and in compliance with all health and safety regulations.
- Administer first aid as needed and maintain up-to-date records of any injuries or incidents.
- Parent and Family Communication:
- Build positive, trusting relationships with children’s families and communicate important information regarding their child’s progress.
- Assist in preparing and distributing communication materials to parents, including newsletters or activity updates.
- Address basic questions or concerns from parents under the guidance of the Lead Teacher.
- Collaboration and Teamwork:
- Work closely with other teachers, assistants, and staff to ensure a positive and cohesive classroom environment.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development opportunities to improve teaching practices and classroom skills.
- Support the classroom team in creating an inclusive environment that values diversity and promotes social and emotional growth.
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- An associate degree in early childhood education or a related field (CDA) is preferred.
- At least 2 years’ experience working with young children in a childcare or educational setting is required.
- Certifications:
- CPR and First Aid certified (or obtain certification within 90 days of hire).
- Background Check / Fingerprinted
- Growing Futures Trainings
- Getting Started (Within 90 days of hire)
- ND Safe Sleep
- Mandated Reporter (Within 90 days of hire)
- Skills and Abilities:
- Passion for working with young children and supporting their development.
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities while maintaining a calm and positive attitude.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 80 pounds.
- Ability to engage in activities such as bending, kneeling, and playing on the floor with children.
