Job Summary:
The Peer Recovery Coach provides support and guidance to individuals recovering from substance use disorders or mental health challenges. This role involves leveraging personal experience with recovery to offer empathy, mentorship, and resources. The Peer Recovery Coach collaborates with healthcare providers, social workers, and other team members to promote clients’ mental wellness and recovery goals. This position aims to enhance clients' self-efficacy and resilience, guiding them toward sustainable recovery.
Key Responsibilities:
Peer Support & Mentorship: Provide compassionate, non-judgmental peer support to individuals in recovery, sharing relevant personal experiences and offering a positive example of recovery.
Resource Navigation: Help clients connect to resources, including treatment programs, support groups, housing assistance, employment opportunities, and other services that support recovery.
Individualized Coaching: Work with clients to set and achieve personalized recovery goals, offering guidance on coping strategies, relapse prevention, and self-care.
Group Coaching: Working with clients in a skills group to help support and achieve goals and learn new skills in recovery such as coping skills, relapse prevention, mindfulness, meal prepping, healthy relationships and 7 habits.
Advocacy & Education: Educate clients about their rights and resources available to them. Advocate for clients within healthcare settings to ensure their needs are addressed respectfully and effectively.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of client interactions, assessments, and progress. Report client progress and challenges to supervisors or case managers as needed.
Outreach & Community Engagement: Participate in outreach activities, workshops, or community events to engage clients and educate the community about recovery support.
Qualifications:
Lived Experience in Recovery: Must have personal experience in mental health or substance use recovery and be at least one year in recovery.
Certification: Colorado Peer and Family Specialist (CPFS) certification or equivalent preferred, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional education in psychology, social work, or behavioral health is a plus.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong listening and communication skills.
Ability to build trust and motivate individuals facing challenges.
Knowledge of local community resources and support networks.
Sensitivity to issues related to substance use, mental health, and trauma.
Other Requirements:
Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings or weekends if necessary.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required.
