SALARY: Base salary $42,000 plus benefits, higher based on experience and qualifications

NOVA was founded in 1993 as an alternative, school-to-work program for “at-risk” students residing on the northwest side of Milwaukee and is a part of the TransCenter for Youth network of schools. NOVA has a long history of offering students career-based learning. Our mission is to graduate proficient, confident, and respectful young scholars with the educational and social skills necessary to compete in our ever-changing world. NOVA’s vision is to guide each student in finding their individual purpose in life in order to make a positive contribution to their communities, be responsible digital citizens, and live a full and healthy life.

Summary

The role of a teacher at NOVA High School is to assist each learner and make an impact on the learning of all students. Teachers at NOVA will create lesson plans that will both engage and inspire students to be successful. An individual who is able to exhibit a high level of expertise, work collaboratively with a team and build meaningful relationships with students is the ideal candidate for this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute meaningful and engaging learning experiences, interventions, enrichment, remediation, advising which have academic rigor.
  • Support at-risk young people dealing with the challenges of an urban environment.
  • Prepare students for post-high school opportunities that lead to meaningful careers.
  • Know, understand, and follow all WI DPI teacher standards.
  • Apply best practices in teaching and classroom management.
  • Commit to a culture which promotes learning, respect, trust, and responsibility.
  • Create trusting relationships with students and their families/guardians, involving parents in the student’s overall success.
  • Analyze data with students and the learning community to set individual learning plans as well as overall team goals.
  • Read and respond to communication (e-mail, phone messages, etc.) daily.
  • Supervise students, ensuring safety at all times.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of NOVA High School and TransCenter for Youth Inc.
  • Possess/maintain a current Wisconsin Teacher License in all subject areas taught.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Licensure issued by Wisconsin’s Department of Public Instruction in Social Studies
