The Laborer is responsible for supporting railcar repair work (cleaning, debris removal, rough demolition). Performs specialized tasks that will require on-the-job training from skilled technicians. Laborers must follow all company guidelines and safety rules when performing their duties.

Primary responsibilities and/or essential functions include, but are not limited to:
Skills/Specifications
- Performs various manual tasks as a general laborer to assist in unloading trucks, railcars, and upkeep of the overall plant.
- Operates pallet jacks, forklifts, and cranes to deliver inbound materials efficiently, effectively, and safely to the proper work center or storage location. May need to assemble items prior to staging.
- Safely operate small tools, cutting torches, grinders, and other pneumatic or hydraulic tools.
- Ability to operate a blast hose, shovel, and forklift safely and proficiently with on-the-job training.
- Assist technicians with completing their tasks including but not limited to prepping all cars for interior and exterior blast, delivering material, blast media and equipment to the work area.
- Fosters teamwork, positive work environment and overall safety of self and others.
- Ability to interpret directions and/or instructions.
- Follow written and verbal directions to complete assigned tasks on schedule.
- Learn from directions, observations, and mistakes and apply procedures using good judgment.
- Self-motivated with ability to complete projects with minimum direct supervision.
- Organizes and maintains a clean work area, free from any hazards.
- All work must conform to customer expectations and company policy and procedures.
- Other duties and projects as assigned by the department Supervisor or Team Leader.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Ability to read and comprehend basic drawings and perform basic math skills (adding/subtraction).
- Minimum of 1 year of work experience.
- Dependable. Meets standards of punctuality and attendance.
- Willingness to learn different tasks.
- Complies with all safety rules and procedures.
- Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, work boots and the ability to wear a respirator.
- The ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials for more than 50% of the workday.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds safely.
- Working around heavy moving equipment with intermittent exposure to vibration when using impact tools.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- The ability to sustain mental and visual attention to details for sustained periods of time.
- WORK SITE ENVIRONMENT
- Must always comply with all safety requirements and lead by example regarding safety.
- Primary work environment subject to extreme heat or cold for considerable amounts of time. Must dress accordingly.
- Hearing protection shall be required in certain designated areas to noise levels greater than 80 decibels.
- Scaffolds, floors, ladders, and walking surfaces may be uneven.
