Under the general supervision of the ADA Administrator, the ADA Specialist, will provide administrative and secretarial support for the ADA Administrator and the Mobility Management Department. In addition to typing, filing and scheduling, performs duties such as coordination of interviews and working on special projects. Answers non-routine correspondence and assembles highly confidential and sensitive information. Deals with a diverse group of external callers; as well as internal contacts at all levels of the organization. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize and organize diversified workload, recommends changes in office practices or procedures. This staff person will be cross-trained to provide back-up support for the ADA ID Center and general office support.
- Pay Rate: $20.23 per hour
- $1,000 Sign On Bonus to be paid out over the course of 12 months. Information to be provided upon hire
Responsibilities:
Helps review Paratransit & Half-Fare applications and provide eligibility recommendations based on the client application form, client-released medical information from a health care professional, and federal ADA guidelines and regulations. The staff person may need to contact the health care professional or research the medical diagnosis to determine eligibility.
- Helps maintain records of all incoming applications.
- Screens all applications for “completeness”. Verifies information on applications. Returns applications to the appropriate individual if it is not complete.
- Types, files and performs other clerical duties; develops and mails correspondence, including approval letters.
- Provides general information to clients about the use of the paratransit system.
- Assists in the development, planning and implementation of appropriate policies and procedures for transportation eligibility issues.
- Communicate with agencies and health professionals on behalf of the ADA Administrator regarding confidential client information.
- Provide Travel Training services to clientele to empower them to use alternative transportation services.
- Pulls no-show reports on a monthly basis and compose letters for passengers with infractions.
- Pulls client eligibility reports on a monthly basis for recertifications for paratransit service.
- Works closely with the Mobility Management Department and Transit Operations in matters that may affect the client in accessing public transportation.
- Assist in the Mobility Management Department (call center) by answering telephone calls if needed.
- Establishs, develops, maintains and updates filing system for the ADA Administrator.
- Types and design general correspondences, memos, charts, tables, graphs if needed.
Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education, Licensing, and Certifications Required:
- Associate’s Degree in a Human Services/Counseling field or 1-3 years of relevant work experience.
Experience:
- 1 to 3 years relevant work experience and/or training involving ADA Compliance.
- Experience working with people with disabilities.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills to interact positively with people with disabilities, employees, superiors, and the general public.
- Skill in basic behavioral training.
- Skill in meaningful interaction with people who have physical, psychological, and cognitive disabilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision.
- Basic knowledge of computer functions (i.e. Microsoft Office software and Internet research)
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of Paratransit, Fixed-Route Transit, ADA regulations
- Ability to make non-biased decisions on ADA compliance and paratransit eligibility

Physical Requirements:
- 100% of work is accomplished indoors and in air conditioned or well ventilated facilities
- Work is accomplished in an office or in a cubicle space equipped with a telephone and computer.
- The employee is generally subjected to long periods spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen.
- This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
- While performing travel training duties, the job may require some walking and standing.
- The job would also entail traveling in outdoor weather conditions.
