About TFSS:

TransFamily Support Services (TFSS) is a San Diego-based nonprofit organization that is compassionately dedicated to saving the lives of transgender and nonbinary youth by empowering them with education, support, resources, and advocacy throughout their transition. TFSS saves lives by shaping a gender-affirming and accepting community. Since our inception in 2015, TFSS has impacted the lives of more than 5,500 transgender and nonbinary folks and their families.

The Youth Program Facillitator (YPF) will play a vital role in facilitating TFSS youth programming, including youth community groups, Discord server moderation, mentorship program management, and outreach for Latine youth programs. This hybrid role includes in-person outreach to schools and community spaces, particularly in the South Bay area of San Diego and Imperial County, along with remote administrative work.

The YPF will report to the Youth Program Manager and the Family & Latine Program Manager, collaborating with the broader TFSS team, including Communications and Marketing, Parent Programming, Insurance and Medical Navigation, Development, and Volunteers and Outreach. This hybrid role includes in-person outreach across San Diego and Imperial Counties, remote administrative tasks, and direct engagement with youth and community groups. It focuses on fostering inclusive spaces for Latine and LGBTQ youth, building community connections, and ensuring effective coordination of youth programs and events.

Full-time position (40 hours) with a salary range of $50,000 - $58,000 per year. This position requires flexible hours and will shift from week to week depending on events and community needs.

Functions & Responsibilities:

Youth Program Management

  • Facilitate online youth community groups and moderate Discord servers.
  • Maintain and update Discord permissions, roles, bots, and server settings.
  • Schedule events, create and organize channels, and adapt settings as needed to ensure server safety.
  • Conduct verifications during evenings and at least one weekend day.
  • Act as a backup when volunteers are unavailable for facilitation, moderation, or other Discord activities.
  • Support Kyler’s Konnections mentorship program, including recruitment, onboarding, coordination of communications, and match monitoring.
  • Review mentors’ social media and coordinate references.
  • Assist with Latine-focused programming and events, including Spanish translation of graphics and materials.

Outreach & Community Engagement

  • Conduct outreach to GSAs across San Diego and Imperial Counties, with a focus on building connections in underserved areas.
  • Represent TFSS at community events, engaging with trans youth and families to promote programming.
  • Take ownership of outreach efforts by identifying and connecting with new community partners, maintaining consistent follow-up, and scheduling activities in coordination with the Youth Program Manager.
  • Assist with in-person events for LGBTQ youth, including volunteer coordination and logistics.

Administrative & Data Management

  • Provide administrative support for youth and Latine programming, including data entry, grant reporting, and program coordination.
  • Use Salesforce to track data, manage communication, and maintain records.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Youth Program Manager, virtually or in person.
  • Coordinate and plan event calendars, ensuring materials for awareness and engagement are prepared and distributed at least two weeks in advance while identifying and addressing any gaps ahead of deadlines
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on program outcomes and activities.

Experience, Skills & Abilities - Required

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience.
  • 1-2 years of program coordination experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with youth.
  • Licensed driver with access to reliable transportation.
  • Bilingual and proficient in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish and English.
  • Ability to translate texts from English to Spanish using modern and relevant terminology.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Comfortable receiving feedback and maintaining accountability for work commitments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a positive and level-headed demeanor.
  • Ability to accommodate a flexible and shifting schedule based on events and community needs

Experience, Skills & Abilities - Preferred

  • Experience with Salesforce and Asana.
  • Experience with evaluating gender-affirming item requests and providing guidance on proper sizing, use, and maintenance of items.
  • Ability to cultivate cultural competency in engaging Spanish-speaking communities.
  • Personality and skillset to expand TFSS's outreach network.
