About the Disability Project
The Disability Project (DP) magnifies the leadership, collective power and analysis of marginalized disabled, Deaf, ill, and Mad communities, while increasing Disability Justice capacity in the movements that seek to serve them. We believe that workaddressing ableism is inherently work about Eugenics, state control, and supremacy. We are committed to securing our place in national conversations, advancing material conditions for our communities, and strengthening movement strategies and infrastructure to achieve collective gain for all disabled people. The Disability Project is staffed by a multi-racial, cross-class, cross-disability, and multi-generational disabled, trans, and NBY (non-binary) team. We collaborate with disabled, Deaf, and ill community members who inform our strategy, and bring additional BIPOC, cross-class, and cross-disability leadership to our work.
POSITION SUMMARY
The National Organizer will work closely with the DPs Senior National Organizers (SNOs) to build out the projects organizing and programmatic work. We are looking for an energetic, motivated, and collective-oriented organizer who is passionate about eroding ableism to improve the material needs of disabled people andweaken the influence of Eugenics at this moment.
The National Organizers role will be grounded in strong relationships with marginalized disabled and Deaf community leaders and networks around the country with a primary focus on BIPOC and low-income leadership including robust connections to disabled TGNC and queer folks.

Job Responsibilities
- Assess alignment betweenthe DPs policy platform and the broader disability rights and justice ecosystems to identify and leverage opportunities for engagement, advocacy, and disability-specific policy in coordination with SNOs and the TLC policy team.
- Monitor disability activism within the broader disability rights and justice ecosystems to stay informed on emerging trends, conferences, and movement conversations.
- Engage and support local and grassroots disability organizing efforts, particularly by BIPOC disabled leaders.
- Maintain close working relationships with disability justice and disability rights groups, organizational partners, coalitions and community leaders.
- Support the SNOs in crafting strategic responses to both emerging and ongoing challenges faced by marginalized disabled and Deaf communities.
- Grow the DPs social media following through development and posting of DP aligned content at least one time per week.
- Contribute to the design and revision of the Disability Justice pillar within the Trans Agenda for Liberation and engage with the Trans Agenda for Liberation coalitions calls for action.
- Assist in growing the DPs community focused media, Disability Dispatches, by exploring opportunities to grow the engagement with the DPs work within the disabled communities.
- As needed, support in the launch of the Deaf & Disabled Trans Peoples Survey (DTPS) findings, including assisting the research team and SNOs in coordinating events and initiatives as they emerge.
- Assist the SNOs with coordinating both in-person and virtual programming with a focus on accessibility. Programming includes membership engagement activities, leadership development initiatives, and movement alignment cohorts and gatherings.
- Assist the SNOs in the development and delivery of the DP's impact political education trainings on disability, anti-ableism, the Disability Carceral State, and other curricula under development. These trainings are tailored for a diverse range of audiences, including community members and key movement partner organizations.
- Support SNOs in integrating DPs work across TLC, including collaboration with other TLC programs to ensure DPs programmatic work is reflected and present.
- Attend internal TLC meetings, including Policy and Programs team meetings, staff meetings and others as required of TLC staff.
- Assist in DP and TLC specific admin work as required or needed, including quarterly board reports, organizational and DP specific newsletters, grants, and creating evaluation tools, streamlined data collection tools, invoicing, expensing and maintaining a disability resource database.
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in disability activism, campaign development, and policy analysis and advocacy.
- 3- 5 years of experience in a base-building or working in community-based organizations that serve and organize directly impacted members, especially in: disabled, Deaf, TGNC, LGBTQ , BIPOC, and low-income communities.
- Expertise in facilitating workshops and trainings, both virtually and in person, to promote understanding of disability justice issues and implementation of disability justice values and strategies.
- Familiarity with issues and systems impacting disabled people with an emphasis on BIPOC individuals and communities, trans and nonbinary, and LGBQ people. Specifically, guardianship, group homes, sheltered workplaces, reproductive care / rights, housing, health care access, criminalization, incarceration, immigration, and other issues.
- Passionate about disability activism through an abolitionist lens, critically analyzing the state's role, with a strong commitment to racial, reproductive, immigration, gender, and economic justice.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel and Zoom based applications. Some experience working with databases preferred.
- Social media fluency including the ability to post on the DPs Instagram page (at least once a week), create simple memes and other content, and curating accounts that we should be following/amplifying.
- Demonstrated proficiency in communication, writing, editing, research, and organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Experience providing access, accommodations, or assistance to disabled, Deaf, or ill individuals either in work or home-based settings.
- Ability to self-motivate, self-direct, and manage multiple tasks for various projects while remaining accountable to team decisions and collaborative efforts.
- Ability to adapt your communication style to best support the access and participation of disabled and Deaf leadership.
- Strong commitment to handling confidential and sensitive information with the utmost integrity and discretion.
- Experience in receiving and providing feedback as a key part of resolving conflict in an effective and balanced manner.
- Experience working in teams or groups with individuals who have experienced multiple layers of systemic oppression and come from diverse backgrounds.
