What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hospice Volunteer Coordinator position at Transitions Hospice Care?
Job Summary:
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, screening, interviewing applicants to fill volunteer needs of hospice patients in the agency, identifying retention issues and developing plans to improve retention.
Qualifications:
1. Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in the volunteer/human services field required.
2. A minimum of two (2) years’ previous hospice, medical or volunteer organization experience preferred.
3. Experience in recruiting, interviewing and public speaking.
4. Able to receive direction and independently follow tasks through with minimum supervision.
5. Ability to access and operate computer system, including prepare documents, enter data, read reports from computer database and e-mail.
6. Ability to use critical thinking skills to solve problems.
7. Detail oriented, able to multi-task and remain flexible with assignments.
8. Maintains professional integrity throughout performance of all job duties.
9. Serve as a positive representative of Transitions Hospice while conducting THC business.
Responsibilities:
1. Assign volunteers to service based on program needs and the interests and skills of Transitions Hospice Care volunteers.
2. Assess and monitor program needs and develop appropriate volunteer activity and positions.
3. Maintain and monitor a record-keeping system which includes services delivered and actual time involved.
4. Create positive experience for internal and external clients that will meet their expectations. Display a high degree of courtesy, tact, and knowledge of services provided by the company in all contact with, staff, patients, and volunteers.
5. Responsible for developing, planning, organizing, and executing volunteer recruitment and training. Keep volunteer pool at a level to meet patient’s/office needs. Ensuring that all volunteers complete appropriate forms and assist in ensuring that all volunteer files are kept up to date with current information 100% of time.
6. Plans, organizes, and implements volunteer recognition events and activities annually. Keeps volunteers informed of upcoming hospice evens and needs through newsletters, memos, direct contact, etc.
7. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve volunteer operations, decrease turnover, streamline training processes to ensure volunteers’ needs are met.
8. Maintains 5% volunteer hours in the aggregate for assigned office location.
9. Maintains contact with DON to ensure all patient’s/office’s volunteers needs are met. Maintains close contact with church leaders in the community, including presenting regularly to congregations (at a minimum of 2 presentations per month), meeting with pastors and attending church functions.
10. Attends a minimum of four (4) area college career fairs a year for recruiting volunteers. Provides volunteers for annual hospice functions, memorial services, marketing, facility events and other functions requested by DON/Administrator.
11. Promotes public awareness of hospice programs through public speaking, letter writing, TV and radio, and public service announcements monthly.
12. Communicates with supervisor regularly to ensure updated on status of job duties and facilitate reporting of positive and negative issues related to job performance.
13. Send weekly volunteer recruitment reports to supervisor.
14. Participate as a member of the THC Care Team and attends IDT meetings.
15. Collaborates with other departments to organize and facilitate special events/projects such as community education, health fairs, recruitment fairs, We Honor Vets, and marketing events.
16. Participate in staff training, assigned committees, professional groups and other education programs as appropriate.
17. Other duties as assigned.
