Nurse Practitioner (NP) – Occupational Health Clinic
Location: NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC), Hampton, Virginia
Position Type: Full-Time, On-Site
Work Hours: Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Position Summary
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide comprehensive occupational health services at the NASA LaRC Occupational Health Clinic. Operating within a multidisciplinary team, the NP will deliver preventive care, acute and chronic illness management, and health promotion activities, ensuring compliance with NASA standards and Virginia state regulations.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Care
· Conduct comprehensive health assessments, including pre-placement, surveillance, job certification, retirement, and flight physicals.
· Diagnose and manage occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses within the scope of practice.
· Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to inform patient care plans.
· Prescribe medications and initiate treatment regimens in accordance with prescriptive authority.
Emergency Preparedness
· Ensure readiness to provide emergency care and treatment during clinic hours.
· Participate in emergency response planning and drills as required.
Health Promotion
· Develop and implement health education programs to promote wellness among employees.
· Collaborate with occupational health staff to support preventive health initiatives.
Regulatory Compliance
· Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic health records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
· Adhere to OSHA standards and NASA policies related to occupational health and safety.
Collaboration
· Work under the supervision of a licensed physician, as mandated by Virginia law, unless authorized for autonomous practice.
· Engage with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and clinic operations.
Minimum QualificationsEducation
· Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
Licensure & Certification
· Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or a compact state.
· Current Nurse Practitioner license in Virginia, with national certification in a relevant specialty area (e.g., Family Nurse Practitioner).
· Authorization to prescribe Schedule II–VI controlled substances in Virginia.
· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Experience
· Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner, with at least 2 years in a clinical setting.
· Experience in occupational health or related fields is preferred.
Additional Requirements
· Ability to pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) and Criminal History Background Check.
· Compliance with the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988; subject to drug testing.
· Proficiency in electronic medical record systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
· Authorization for autonomous practice in Virginia, requiring a minimum of 3 years (5,400 hours) of full-time clinical experience as an NP.
· Advanced certifications relevant to occupational health.
Continuing Education
Nurse Practitioners in Virginia are required to complete 30 hours of continuing education (CE) biennially, including 8 hours in pharmacology, to maintain licensure and prescriptive authority.
