The purpose of this job description is to establish and define the functional role, reporting relationships, requirements, authority, responsibilities, duties, and standards of performance of the Trailer Technician level for Transport Continental Inc.
BASIC FUNCTIONS
The basic function of the Trailer Technician is to inspect, maintain, and repair all trailers assigned, including, but not limited to flatbed, stepdeck, and dry van trailers.
REQUIREMENTS
Skill, Knowledge and Abilities: Excellent communication skills, knowledgeable in trailer inspections and repair. The position requires loyalty and common sense to evaluate and detect any anomalies.
Required: High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred: Technical training and education in trailer bodywork and repair. Air brake, aluminum welding, and electrical systems.
Experience: Minimum of two years working in a trailer repair facility.
Must Pass a Background check and drug screen.
Reporting Relationships: The Trailer Technician reports directly to the Shop Foreman.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Inspect and repair all trailers assigned for maintenance.
- Install and maintain all trailer GPS tracking equipment (Sky Bitz).
- Notify the Shop Foreman of defective shop tools, air hoses electrical equipment, or pertinent equipment used to perform duties.
- All assigned PMs for all trailers are performed to the highest level of quality. Keep Shop Foreman informed on any safety incidents or concerns.
- The trailer technician has the authority to drive the company shop vehicle as an approved driver for company business.
DUTIES AND TASKS:
- Perform PMs on all trailers, inspecting, and repairing as required.
- Inspect, install, and replace all TCI decals, lettering, and numbers on all trailers.
- Repair, remove, or replace any damaged external or internal panel/s on dry van trailers.
- Inspect all flatbed, step-deck floors, rub rails, stake pockets, winch tie downs, and winch tracks and repair or replace as needed.
- Inspect all electrical components, clearance lights, stop and turn signal lamps, and wiring hardness on all company-owned flat beds, step decks, dry vans, or any other specialized trailers repair or replace as needed.
- Inspect air suspension, airbags, and air lines, brake chambers auto inflation systems, air valves repair or replace them as needed.
- Maintain work area clean and free of debris at the start or end of each workday.
- Assist Diesel Technicians in repairs and maintenance when assigned.
- Follow all company policies and procedures and perform all other duties assigned.
MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE:
- All work must be completed in a timely manner.
- All work performed must be accurate, neat, and complete.
- All assigned PMs for all trailers are performed to the highest level of quality.
- All required paperwork, closing repair orders, and parts charging must be completed on time.
- All installation and maintenance of trailer GPS tracking equipment (sky bitz) are performed on time and of the highest quality.
- Inform Shop Foreman of any safety incidents or concerns.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
