The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description 1. Writes remarks ranging from major keynote speeches to press conferences, while preparing briefing materials for the Department’s Commissioner, Executive team and Regional leadership.2. Travel with the Commissioner and Executive team to locations across the state to coordinate public events on site.3. Amplify key messages from the Department, both internally and externally on a consistent basis.4. Experience handling press calls and crafting messaging through press releases, correspondence and Executive level communications.5. Assist in the coordination of transportation-related announcements by NYSDOT and the Executive Chamber, in partnership with other state agencies. Idea generation on new and innovative ways to promote the Department and its mission to New Yorkers.6. Various social media tasks as required.7. Help secure attendance by media and local representatives for Commissioner-related events.8. Conduct research on a variety of topics of relevance to the Commissioner and the Department of Transportation.9. Prepare wording on a number of public-facing materials including the agency’s website, publications and social media.10. Assist in coordination of press conferences across New York State, establishing both internal and external relationships along the way.11. Responsibility for weekly, monthly and quarterly reports as needed while acting as one of the central points of contact for the Commissioner’s schedule, helping to ensure that anyone who needs to be at events and meetings are present.12. Strong, quick and accurate writing skills are imperative to the success of this position.Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
