The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description Under the direction of a higher-level supervisor/manager, the candidate will perform engineering, data analysis or research work related to design and construction of highways, bridges, buildings, dams, and other facilities.Duties may include, but are not limited to: • Providing technical expertise to the Department’s design, construction, and maintenance programs.• Preparing construction and/or materials specifications.• Evaluating, implementing, and monitoring the performance of new materials and processes used on Department projects.• Conducting laboratory field tests using instrumentation and/or data acquisition equipment, as well as evaluating and analyzing the data.• Performing non-destructive pavement testing in the field.• Reviewing and coordinating all construction activities in support of the traffic monitoring continuous count system. Including meeting with EIC, Design, Residency, and contractor personnel.• Procuring and maintaining equipment.• Performing downloads, quality control, and data analysis of traffic pavement data, as assigned.• Matching collected data and images to existing inventory data to ensure consistency.• Traveling occasionally statewide to collect and analyze field data.• Performing other duties, as required.Please note: At least one of these vacancies is located at our Central Testing Laboratory, located at 7 Harriman Campus Road, Albany, NY 12206. The qualifications are: Promotional: One year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-cc service as a Principal Drafting Technician (General), Principal Drafting Technician (Structural), Principal Engineering, Principal Engineering Technician (Soils), Mapping Technician 3, Mapping Technologist 1, Senior Engineering Materials Analyst, Senior Engineering Materials Chemist, Materials Testing Specialist 1, Engineering Geologist, or Traffic Systems Technician 2. Open Competitive: High school graduation or equivalent and six years of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering or engineering technology related to transportation infrastructure work.Substitution30 semester hours of training for a technical institute, community college or college in civil engineering, civil engineering technology construction technology, engineering, physical or applied sciences on a year-for-year basis, up to four years.Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
