Position begins 2024-2025 school year.  Salary Schedule is based on the 2024-2025 school year.

 

This is a 10-month/renewable position with 179 day contract calendar, that includes benefits of paid medical and leave.

 

New hires typically begin at Step 1 on the Salary Schedule, but credit may be considered for relevant  experience/certifications.

 

OnSite Training Provided and Funded.

 

Schedule: Split Shift: Estimated 6:30am - 8:30am and estimated 2:00 - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday.  NOTE: Friday afternoon schedue changes 1:00pm to 3:30pm with early release.

 

TITLE: School Bus Driver (Special Education)

 

SUPERVISOR: Transportation Supervisor

 

JOB TYPE: This is a Classified Position, 5 hour per day, Monday through Friday

 

SUMMARY: Operate school buses under all types of weather conditions to transport students and other authorized persons over regular “to and from” routes and on activity trips as authorized by the school district officials.  Ensuring vehicle is in safe operating condition and ensuring safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from the bus.  Serve as a courteous representative of the Siuslaw School District.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.   • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to meet the physical and mental standards necessary to perform the duties, and responsibilities of a school bus driver as required by the State and District policies and procedures.
  • Possess a valid Oregon Commercial Drivers’ License, Type B, with passenger, air brake and school bus endorsements, demonstrating a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Possess an Oregon School Bus Drivers’ Certificate and maintain a driving record within ODE requirements.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in performance of duties.
  • Willingness to attend workshops and training sessions.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work and communicate with students, parents and school personnel.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with others.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Inspect assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation of vehicle and reports any deficiencies.
  • Reports all possible problem areas (safety hazards, parent/student concerns or complaints).
  • Maintain interior and exterior cleanliness of assigned district vehicles; sweeping, dusting and washing.
  • Maintains required licenses, certificates and first–aid card by attending required training classes and preserving a good driving record within ODE requirements.
  • Operate a school bus in accordance with laws of the State of Oregon and District policy/procedures.
  • Assists students and other passengers with safe loading and unloading from the bus in both emergency situations and normal transport.
  • Operates wheelchair lift, harness, and other special equipment necessary for the health and safety of students.
  • Follows & supports IEP goals and objectives, including behavior management plans.
  • Manipulates and operates student assistive technology devices.
  • Lifts and physically manipulates students into position, including proper fastening and unfastening of restraints.
  • Monitors students, parents and staff members during transit for the purpose of maintaining order and ensuring the safety of passengers. And taking precautions to provide for the health and safety of the passengers and to protect the equipment.
  • Report unsafe acts or conditions which require the attention of supervisory personnel.
  • Establishes open lines of communication with supervisor, administration and district staff, and cooperates to resolve problems in a professional manner.
  • Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and potential emergency situations for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the situation.
  • And other related tasks as assigned by the transportation supervisor.

  • The employee has regular attendance at work and work activities, is punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings and following schedules.
  • The employee is dressed and groomed in a neat, clean and professional manner for the assignment and work setting.
  • The employee maintains the integrity of confidential information relating to a student, family, colleague or district patrons. The employee uses or relays personal information only in the course of performing assigned responsibilities and in the best interest of the individuals involved.
  • The employee follows all district or supervisor polices, rules, regulations, memos, bulletins, announcements, applicable position description and reasonable requests by proper authority.

 

PHYSICAL/WORK REQUIREMENTS:

This work is done on a school bus or in a school or district environment, and may include cleaning agents and gasoline smells, human bodily fluid cleanup and repetitive work. She/he will sit, stand, with bend, lift, twist, pull, push, walk, and kneel. She/he must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion.

 

CONDITIONS:   

This is a classified 10-month position.

 

SALARY:              

Will be determined by terms of the current negotiated agreement. The amount due under the contract will be pro-rated monthly in accordance with district policy.
