JOB TITLE: Bus Driver CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Transportation Director PAY GRADE: Classified Salary Schedule
LOCATION: Transportation DATE REVISED: 9/1/2023
Primary Purpose:
Operate school bus and related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation of all students and other authorized persons on assigned routes and to and from other designated locations, including field trips and extracurricular activities.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- A clear and valid Arkansas Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a P (Passenger) and S (School Bus) endorsement is required. However, Prairie Grove Public Schools will assist any School Bus Driver applicant with obtaining a CDL.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Must be 18 years of age
- Ability to pass background check, U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
- Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Proficient map reading skills
- Ability to manage student behavior
- Ability to communicate effectively with others
Experience:
- 3 years’ experience as a school bus driver preferred.

Physical Demands:
- Frequent heavy lifting (45 pounds or more).
- Prolonged driving; moderate walking; frequent climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension, and reaching
- Prolonged sitting; frequent standing and twisting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending, stooping, and pushing/pulling
