What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian Night Supervisor (Working Lead Person) position at Transportation/Maintenance?
General Definition:
Responsible for Supervision and assisting of Custodians as well as the cleanliness and maintenance of school buildings.
Under Supervision of:
Facilities Supervisor
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Performs and assists all General Custodial Duties which include:
- Sweeps, scrubs, mops and waxes floors
- Dusts and polishes furniture and metal work
- Empties and cleans waste receptacles
- Washes walls and windows and cleans blinds
2. Works in conjunction with the Facilities Supervisor to assign custodial area and duties
3. Responsible for setting up night meetings, school events or other functions.
4. Responds to school emergencies and calls
5. Assists Facilities Supervisor with inventory and supply ordering
6. Other related duties as assigned by Supervisor
7. Knowledge of handling and disposal and use of chemicals
8. Ensure Building is secure
9. Train new employees
10. Assist with snow removal
11. Monitor staff performance and complete evaluations
Qualification Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and or ability required.
Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma or Equivalent,
Previous Experience as a custodian or maintenance person - school experience preferred.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operations, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondences.
Ability to speak effectively before employees and school staff.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to independently problem solve employee situations.
Ability to understand and carry out detailed written and oral instructions.
Certifications and Licenses:
NJ Driver’s License with good driving record.
NJ Black Seal Boiler Operator’s License or must obtain within one year.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations
- Ability to operate a computer
- Demonstrate quality work
- Exceptional work habits
- Supervisory skills (ex. Leading the crew by example at all times)
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the Employee is:
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward.
- Frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person.
- Frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds, such as cleaning supplies and furniture.
- Able to use a ladder.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. Employee will be exposed to cleaning chemicals, requiring proper safety gear.
