What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver position at Transportation Office?
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Ten (10) Months, Non-Exempt
SALARY CLASSIFICATIONS: Classified Salary Scale
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: To provide transportation services for students; to enhance the physical environment of students through individualized focus on safety and understanding.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
- Obey all traffic laws, observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses;
- Enforce all bus regulations set forth by the district and state;
- Inspects bus twice daily before each operation for mechanical defects;
- Notifies proper authority immediately in case of mechanical failure or tardiness;
- Transports and discharges authorized students only, and only at authorized stops;
- Reports all accidents and completes required reports;
- Participate in student safety training;
- Reports undisciplined behavior to appropriate staff;
- Assure that students follow safety rules when boarding and disembarking bus;
- Collects student personal items left on the bus; returns to appropriate staff member(s);
- Drives only on assigned bus routes ensuring timely pickup and discharge of students;
- Prepares reports as required;
- Keeps assigned bus clean;
- Performs other related tasks as assigned.
CERTIFICATION: CPR/First Aid; Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
MODERATE RISK OCCUPATIONAL CONDITION: Works around some hazardous materials, driving with poor road conditions.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Ability to pass annual physical;
- Ability to pass annual drug test;
- Successful completion CPR/First Aid training;
- Successful completion of road test;
- Adequate communication skills to ensure order on the bus;
- Ability to pass physical performance test (Agility Test).
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Rules and regulations governing school bus operation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: High School diploma or GED equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: Prior driving experience desirable.
SUPERVISION: Perform as directed, responsible for own job.
RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for valuable equipment.
LICENSE: Valid Arizona Commercial Drivers License; (Class B or A) and with P and S endorsement.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: May be required to assist students with restricted mobility; Ability to lift at least 30 pounds.
