Position Description :
The Engineer 1 position is responsible for performing and analyzing research and testing across various disciplines, working with engineers to conduct complex engineering testing and analyses, designing, and implementing new standards, protocols, processes, and equipment and providing technical reports and presentations to assist in planning and direction.
Essential Functions
Develop and use of analytical procedures, component and / or full scale vehicle testing
Conduct research relating to a wide variety of motor vehicle / mobility safety issues
Perform design analyses of motor vehicle / mobility safety systems
Support development and evaluation of basic technical proposals

Create detailed cost estimates for tasks
Establish and maintain task schedules and budgets
Write research papers and technical reports

Report research and test results in a basic format

Critically evaluate and correct deficiencies in technical proposals, plans, and reports
Make technical decisions with moderate supervision
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in engineering or appropriate comparable discipline
Technical knowledge to solve tough substantive, work-related problems
Strong communication skills
Excellent computer skills including word processing and data analysis software
Basic project management skills
Working conditions
Standard office, climate controlled environment
Standard laboratory environment
May be exposed to temperatures below 0 degree and above 95 degrees
May be exposed to inclement weather
May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, such as gas, oil, and paint
Physical requirements
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment
Ability to communicate with customers and co-workers
Ability to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds depending on specific group / role. (requirement may be waived if role does not require heavy lifting)
