POSITION:             BUS ATTENDANT PARAEDUCATOR – Rt 339 – (TEMPORARY)

                               Transportation Department

EFFECTIVE DATE:  Immediately

SALARY:               $19.87 - $21.36 per hour

                             AA Degree - $.50 per hour extra/

                             BA Degree - $.75 per hour extra

SCHEDULE:          7 hours, 07 minutes per day, Monday, Tuesday, Friday

                            7 hours, 24 minutes Wednesday

                            7 hours, 57 minutes on Thursday. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED: (Qualifications which are essential to the position)

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working with behaviorally disabled children
• Ability to establish and maintain professional, cooperative working relationships
• Demonstrated exemplary customer service and responsiveness
• Must follow supervisory directions and employ personal initiative when necessary
• Demonstrated punctuality and an excellent work attendance record
• Must work within designated bounds of authority and confidentiality
• Ability to follow safe work practices and procedures
• Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with staff, students, and patrons
• Interest in working with disabled children
• Adequate health and physical strength to assist students by lifting, etc.
• Provide assistance to students to maintain appropriate behavior on the bus
• Valid first aid card with CPR, infant and child
• Ability to assist with management of children with special health problems, e.g. seizures, breathing, etc.
• Must be able to repeatedly lift 50 lbs
• De-escalation strategies
• Willingness to attend training as required
• Assists drivers with reports

QUALIFICATIONS:

DESIRED: (Qualifications which are not required, but would be useful to the position)

• Bilingual English/Spanish, highly desired
• Prior successful instruction experience and/or training working with disabled children

DUTIES:

The bus attendant provides assistance for disabled students on the bus and will assist the bus driver during the bus route.
