What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver Aide position at Transportation?
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To assist with the safety and care of handicapped students loading and unloading, and in-route to and from school
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Hold a high school diploma or GED equivalency certificate
Meet state physical examination requirements
Must have successfully completed the National Red Cross First Aid Course
Ability to deal with exuberant behavioral characteristics of youthful riders
Ability to recognize problems and move quickly to solve them
REPORTS TO:
Director of Transportation. Each driver shall be directly responsible to the principals of the school(s) he/she serves on matters related to student discipline and patron relations
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
To operate hydraulic-lift equipment bus for the purpose of loading and unloading of wheelchair-confined students
To secure each student into his/her location with either harnesses, seat belts, wheelchair locks, or other safety equipment
To maintain discipline in keeping with division regulations
To assist in emergency evacuation drills in keeping with division regulations
To instruct riders regarding being responsible passengers
To report personal absences in time for supervisor to secure substitute aide
To know the physical and/or emotional handicap of each student on the bus
To be alert and exercise good judgement concerning emergencies, disabled vehicles, and irregular special requests by parents of riders
To perform other duties as assigned by Director of Transportation

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work involves limited physical tasks and may involve limited lifting, stooping, climbing of steps, and the ability to lift and/or carry children as required
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
10 month contract

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of
Personnel
