Position Description
POSITION TITLE: Substitute Mechanic
QUALIFICATIONS:
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation/Chief Mechanic
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Attend all workshops and conferences, as assigned by Director and/or Chief Mechanic.
2. Lubricate/service school system vehicles in accordance with established schedule.
3. Procure and replace vehicle parts as directed by Chief Mechanic.
4. Perform periodic preventative maintenance inspections and corrections in accordance with established schedule.
5. Perform major overhaul of engines, transmissions and other component parts.
6. Install and service electrical component accessories.
7. Repair air and hydraulic brake systems.
8. Maintain records of all maintenance and repairs performed on each vehicle as directed by Director and Chief Mechanic.
9. May be required to operate a bus as determined by the Director if no substitute is available at the time required.
10. Follow proper purchasing procedures.
11. Maintain inventory of shop tools and equipment as directed by Chief Mechanic.
12. Maintain positive work habits.
13. Perform duties efficiently and productively.
14. Maintain and/or upgrade skills.
15. Provide necessary services and support during bus breakdowns and other vehicle related emergency situations as necessary as assigned by Director and/or Chief Mechanic.
16. Perform other job-related responsibilities assigned by the Director and/or Chief Mechanic.
