The Transportation Mechanic is a vital and supportive member of the PCSD team, working collaboratively with educators, support staff, and administration to achieve the shared goal of ensuring all students receive the education they need to succeed both today and tomorrow. This role is performed within a garage setting, overseen by the Director of Transportation, where teamwork and dedication to student success are paramount.

Primary Function: Ability to perform skilled mechanical repair and maintenance on District vehicles and equipment. Knowledge of the principles of internal combustion engines, electronic systems, emission controls and fuel injection systems. Ability to skillfully and efficiently diagnose and repair mechanical malfunctions. Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical diagrams and schematics. |

Qualifications:
Minimum of high school diploma or GED |
Minimum of three (3) years successful experience in automotive and light diesel mechanical repair work or similar demonstrates experience |
Ability to obtain and maintain B.P. CDL License |
Provide the necessary tools to perform assigned duties |
The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.
Essential Functions:

Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs gasoline and light diesel trucks, buses, automobile and other malfunctioning motor vehicles and their systems accurately and efficiently |
|
Maintains tools and work area in a clean and safe condition |
|
Rebuilds, replaces, adjusts, or overhauls engines, transmissions, differentials, ignitions, brakes, clutches, carburetors, electrical systems, fuel systems and other mechanical assemblies |
|
Uses a variety of hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and mechanical aids to replace and adjust bearings, adjust and replace brake shoes, pads and drums, turn engines, change oil, lubricate and service automobile equipment |
|
Inspects vehicles and follows a preventive maintenance schedule |
|
Repairs and mounts flat tires |
|
Uses welding equipment |
|
Prepares buses for state inspection |
|
Keeps all vehicles and automobiles assigned to transportation full of gas/diesel fuel and oil |
|
Records inspection results to include lube, oil, repairs, tires, replacement parts, etc. |
|
Drives school bus in case of emergency |
|
Passes annual physical examination |
|
Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee |
