JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to develop and maintain school bus routes and bus schedules, to include determining mileages and run times for development of schedules. Additionally, this position will be responsible for documenting vehicle maintenance and maintaining an appropriate inventory of parts necessary to ensure minimal interruptions to vehicle maintenance. This position will also process and track all departmental purchase orders.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

  • Operation of computers and programs including, but not limited to Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Routefinder Pro, and Service Master in a Windows based environment;
  • Work closely with the Director of Transportation to perform duties associated with routing, rerouting, and the routing software;
  • Input information into routing software in order to generate, formalize and maintain bus routes, assign students to schools and buses, establish school district lines, and incorporate this data into a parent database for parent access.
  • Assess bus transportation needs for each school;
  • Evaluate/assign bus routes and stops for each student’s safety and efficiency;
  • Formulate essential information regarding routes, students, and specific route instructions for each driver;
  • Verify data in Power School to ensure that accurate student addresses are entered into the routing software;
  • Coordinate with the County Planning Department on county road and subdivision updates;
  • Create/maintain geographical maps of bus routes; modify and adjust routes as needed;
  • Prepare and/or complete various forms, reports, correspondence, bus routes, route directions, student list spreadsheets, billing statements, color-coded maps, or other documents;
  • Use Servicefinder to input vehicle maintenance work orders into the maintenance database;
  • Provide various reports as necessary;
  • Assist with maintaining the accuracy of the parts inventory for bus and vehicle maintenance;
  • Develop reports that reflect the total cost of maintenance for a particular period and the total cost of maintaining particular buses and vehicles;
  • Assist with answering the phone and dispatching when needed;
  • Use the FuelMaster program to manage fuel use and measure miles per gallon for each vehicle; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director/Director of Transportation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred;
  • Two (2) years of experience or training involving computerized trip, routing, office administration, customer service, and personal computer operations.
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of routing software.
  • Knowledge of service software.
  • Knowledge of routine office functions, such as processing purchase orders, invoices, etc.
  • Eligible to obtain a Class B CDL and required endorsements to safely drive a school bus.
  • Knowledge of FuelMaster software.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and make decisions.
  • Ability to problem solve.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is typically performed in the transportation department and throughout the division as needed. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 40 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities are required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work environment exposes the employee to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members and administrators is required. Contact with employees by phone and in person is necessary. Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all CCPS employees. To ensure adequate staffing, positive employee morale, and to meet expected productivity standards throughout the organization, employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.

 

EVALUATION:

The supervisor will evaluate performance on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
