THE OPPORTUNITY
Coordinates with and assists the DC Manager with Distribution Center operations activities for the functional areas assigned to this role. This function is also contributes to efforts to ensure the distribution center maintains a culture that encompasses Transtar’s core values and team member development. This Supervisor would be overseeing 2nd shift DC operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages 15-20 people in a 185,000 square foot warehouse, 2 shift operation
- Assists the DC Manager with the development and implementation of new production processes for efficiency.
- Supports and reinforces Mission Vision Value communications and objectives to drive company culture.
- Ensures Daily Production schedules and KPI are being met, including analyzing and presenting to the DC Manager root causes of issues when there is a miss. Implements countermeasures to prevent future misses following DC Manager approval.
- Supervises Quality Control of all items being made, packaged, assembled, and/or shipped within functional area in accordance with DC standards and/or policies.
- Reinforces DC adherence to company-developed SOP’s / WI’s for warehouse management and transportation.
- Assists the finance/purchasing departments with researching DC financial issues, including resolving receipt and payable variances, auditing, cost reduction/avoidance efforts, and core management as it impacts the assigned functional areas.
- Supervises direct reports as they execute their daily duties.
- In consultation with the DC Manager, provides proactive feedback to team leads and team members, including providing team member coaching, teammate performance feedback, individual performance feedback, and corrective actions where needed.
- Supervises all employee attendance, timesheets, goals, and communications. Conducts all disciplinary actions for team members, as situations requires and following discussion with the DC Manager and/or Human Resources.
- Supervises functional areas’ safety and compliance to safety program standards and requirements. Promotes workplace safety by ensuring universal precautions and safe work practices are used, ensure fire/safety/disaster plans are established in accordance with the safety program standards and communicated to all department personnel, participates in risk management assessments, responds to security and/or correct unsafe working conditions, and equipment repair, and maintenance needs.
- Assists the DC Manager in ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements regarding hazardous material, storage requirements and reporting agencies (example: EPA, OSHA, etc.).
- All other duties as assigned
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum Education: High School Diploma
- Minimum Experience: 3- 6 years or more of leading a team within warehouse functions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates’ degree preferred
- 5 years in operations and 2 years in leadership functions
- Previous supervisory, leadership, planning, communication, organization, and people motivation experience highly preferred
- Or any combination of relevant education and experience to meet the above requirements
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to delegate when assigning team member workloads
- Use and oversight of a WMS
- Problem-solving skills to help resolve complaints and production issues
- Clear knowledge of DC operations
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Management skills including team member coaching, development and conflict management
- Leadership and organizational skills to run the functional area efficiently
- Proficiency in inventory and/or invoice software, ERP and WMS
- Knowledge of tools and equipment
- Ability to use technology based software, especially using data analysis software (Example: Power BI, WMS)
- Excellent organization, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills, and a strong work ethic
- Ability to create and adhere to production processes
- Ability to write reports legibly and accurately
- Full knowledge of company policies and procedures
- Understanding of safety practices
- Competency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Adobe, PowerPoint, Outlook)
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This individual will be working in a Distribution Center/Warehouse environment, collaborating with team members, vendors, and other Managers within the facility. Depending on the assigned location, the facility is shared with the Sales Team and other business entities of the Company.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The individual is regularly required to sit, stand or walk 8 hours or more in a day. The individual is occasionally required to use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel; climb; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; push or pull, and reach with hands and arms. The individual must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
