The Transylvania County Library is seeking a dynamic, team-oriented Library Associate (Venue Coordinator) with a strong commitment to public service to specialize in venue management and local history services. This position offers a unique opportunity for an individual who enjoys working with the public, managing event logistics, and supporting the preservation and exploration of local history. The Venue Coordinator collaborates with library staff and community groups to facilitate use of the library’s community rooms and amphitheater, helping bring programs and events to life in these busy public spaces.
The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, and must be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. A flexible schedule is required, as events may take place outside regular library hours. Responsibilities include setting up and breaking down.
Essential Functions
- At an advanced level, assists library patrons in person, by phone, and by email on topics including:
- use of the library, including its programs and services
- research activities using print and electronic resources
- use of computers and other common technologies, including but not limited to: mobile devices, the Internet, word processors, email, etc.
- use of the library catalog and locating library materials
- Offers circulation services including checking in and out materials, issuing library cards, readying materials for transit to other libraries, assessing fines/fees, and resolving problems related to library records.
- Individual Library Associates often have duties focused in specific areas, including:
- Venue coordination: managing reservations and use of public spaces, including coordination with community organization, fee collection, room setup, and operation of audiovisual systems.
- Supervision of Library Pages: ensures proper training, guidance, scheduling, support, and evaluation for completion of assigned tasks.
- Collection maintenance: helps to oversee holds ratios, monitor and select materials for subsections of the library collection, evaluate and suggest materials to be withdrawn or replaced.
- Inventory management: Implements and oversees on-going inventory and shelf reading projects and coordinates related volunteer activities.
- Programs & events: under the direction of a librarian, plan and implement components of child, teen, or adult programming
- Maintains accurate library records, including patron and statistical information
- Supports part-time staff and volunteers in work area: answer questions, shares information about library developments, assists with more complex tasks. May supervise and schedule volunteers.
- Models and promotes the consistent application of County and Library service goals, policies and procedures to staff and the public.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings, as well as other meetings and library teams.
- Abides by, enforces, and participates in the implementation and ongoing oversight of safety standards and regulations
- Performs related tasks as required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:

Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Library or bookstore experience is preferred.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Driver's License valid in the State of North Carolina.

Pay: $36,133.50 - $56,043.00 per year
