Job Title: Disaster Case Manager
Reports To: Executive Director
Location: Brevard, NC
Job Type: Full-time, Temporary (Grant-Funded)
Position Overview:
The Disaster Case Manager (DCM) provides support to individuals and families affected by Hurricane Helene by assisting them in navigating the recovery process. The DCM will work directly with disaster survivors to assess their needs, develop recovery plans, and coordinate services to help them regain stability. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with community partners and agencies.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Support & Case Management:
- Conduct comprehensive needs assessments for individuals and families impacted by disasters.
- Develop and implement individualized disaster recovery plans.
- Provide guidance and referrals to available resources, including housing, financial assistance, healthcare, and mental health services.
- Advocate for clients in accessing services and resources from local, state, and federal agencies, including FEMA and non-profit partners.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records in compliance with program requirements and confidentiality standards.
Community & Partner Coordination:
- Collaborate with local and national relief organizations, government agencies, and community partners to ensure clients receive necessary assistance.
- Establish and maintain relationships with service providers to maximize resources available to disaster survivors.
- Represent the organization in community meetings, outreach efforts, and disaster response networks.
Data & Compliance Management:
- Ensure compliance with all program guidelines, grant requirements, and reporting obligations.
- Track and document all case activities, outcomes, and client progress in case management systems.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports and summaries on disaster case management services.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, emergency management, non-profit, or a related field preferred.
- 2 years of case management or disaster response experience preferred.
- Knowledge of disaster recovery resources, including FEMA, Red Cross, and other assistance programs.
- Strong advocacy and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in high-stress environments with individuals experiencing trauma.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management databases.
- Ability to travel as needed and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends during disaster response periods.
- Bilingual abilities (Spanish) are a plus.
Work Environment:
- Work is primarily in an office setting, but fieldwork in disaster-affected areas is required.
- Some travel and participation in community meetings and outreach events may be necessary.
- May require lifting supplies and assisting with on-the-ground recovery efforts as needed.
