Responsibilities
What you'll be challenged to do:
TranSystems located in Towson, Maryland is looking for a Construction Inspector, Transportation Engineering Technician III (TET III) Transportation to provide inspection of construction contracts.This position will be assigned to an MDTA construction project as a Construction Inspector on various construction contract operations. The employee in this position will become familiar with standard specifications for construction, understand the duties from the construction manual, and review and understand the contract specifications and plans.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary representative for MDOT assignments to ensure compliance with contract documents by contractors.
- Monitoring of overall contract and specific construction item budgets.
- Basic knowledge of MDOT Standard Specifications, contract drawing interpretations, specific contract Special Provisions interpretations, construction inspection quality control inspection duties, and compliance with MDOT Construction Manual.
- Working with Program Managers from MDOT agencies including Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA), State Highway Administration – Office of Construction (OOC), Office of Traffic and Safety (OOTS) and Maryland Transit Authority (MTA) on staff assignments, diversity and construction project availability.
- Closely monitor the contractor’s progress and quality of work.
- Measure all pay items for proper dimension, volume, and/or area and calculating for final payment.
- Maintain a daily report of construction and inspection activities.
- Responsible for all contract records and documents.
- Review plans, special provisions and specifications that apply to the project.
- Inspect construction and maintenance projects, conduct roadway, traffic, foundation of traffic signals, streetlights, luminaires, trenches, conduits and pavement marking inspections.
- Work independently, with some supervision.
Qualifications
What you bring to our firm:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Three (3) years’ experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning
- Maintain or eligible for MDOT certifications for construction inspectors.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Office including Word and Excel.
- Experience working with MDOT agencies including Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA), State Highway Administration – Office of Construction (OOC), Office of Traffic and Safety (OOTS) and Maryland Transit Authority (MTA) and be knowledgeable of their requirements is a plus.
- Experience working with local government agencies including Maryland Counties and Cities/Towns and knowledgeable of their contract requirements is a plus.
- Must be able to read and understand contract drawings and inspection testing procedures for materials compliance.
- Must be experienced in construction inspection duties on transportation projects including roadway construction and rehabilitation, bridge structure construction and rehabilitation, highway safety measures installations including signing, lighting, markings and traffic barrier installations, highway drainage systems and environmental management methods, underground utilities including water and sanitary sewer systems, and materials testing for specification compliance and progress payments.

Physical Requirements/ Working Conditions:
- Must be proficient and able to effectively communicate in English orally and in writing.

- Able to drive vehicle on a daily basis.
- Be of good health and able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds daily or as needed.
