What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bridge Engineer position at TranSystems?
Gannett Fleming TranSystems has an immediate opening for a Bridge Engineer. This position includes structural design, rehabilitation, and inspection of bridges, and tunnels, overhead structures, retaining walls, and other structures along with the preparation of load ratings, construction documents, specifications, and estimates. In addition, duties may include construction inspection services. Day-to-day assignments and technical guidance will be provided by current staff. Applicants must possess strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to travel for projects, the ability to work in the field conducting bridge inspections and must be able to work well in a team environment on multi-disciplinary projects.
Responsibilities
- Plan, design and direct transportation components primarily for freight railroad, passenger rail and transit, states and municipalities and federal government projects.
- Analyze information and data to perform routine design tasks.
- Make decisions independently on engineering problems and methods, and occasionally represent the organization in meetings to resolve important questions, and to plan and coordinate work.
- Receive instructions from Project Manager or Senior Project Engineers as to the general results expected.
- Receive technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects. Responsible for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
- Research design options and document findings for Senior Project Engineer. Keep Senior Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Usually performs as a staff advisor and consultant to technical specialty.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or related discipline plus at least 4 years of related experience. Alternatively, a Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline plus at least 3 years of related experience.
- Must have successfully passed the Professional Engineering exam.
- Related experience must include working in adherence to recommended best practices in the industry as identified in the AREMA Manual for Railway Engineering, AASHTO Manual, and other railroad and highway bridge codes and standards applicable to project specifications.
- Related experience required in technology platforms and software including LEAP Bridge Concrete, LPILE, MicroStation and Bluebeam Revu.
- Experience working with standard railroad plans preferred. Up to 5% regional travel required.
