Responsibilities What you'll be challenged to do : Gannett Fleming TranSystems is seeking a Civil Engineering intern for the Spring / Summer of 2025 interested in developing career skills in the following disciplines : Marine and Waterfront Design Site / Civil Design Storm Drain and Utility Design Successful candidates will work assisting our experienced Engineers by reviewing and performing calculations, developing design plans, learning industry software and CADD skills, and participating in Marine and Waterfront Engineering Design. Other opportunities may include construction observation and site visits for pre-design scope development. This is a technical position intended for Civil Engineering students in their sophomore year of college or higher. A sample of the skills our interns can expect to develop include : Foundational understanding of the consulting engineering business Team communication and collaboration for civil engineering projects Application of college course material in a real-world project Assembling engineering calculations in a project setting and applying the quality control process to those calculations Development of construction cost estimates and material and labor quantities used to estimate project costs Familiarity with industry and discipline-specific software, including drafting utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D, Autodesk Construction Cloud, MicroStation, Flowmaster, and other engineering modeling software such as Autodesk SSA, ICPR4, and / or Hydroflow. Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members. Qualifications What you bring to our firm : Candidate must be pursuing a bachelor's Degree in the Civil Engineering field at an ABET accredited university, or pursuing a graduate degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Science or Transportation Planning Be eager to learn; be a team player; and be enthusiastic. Work Environment : The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, construction and field assignments can be severe (construction equipment, jack hammers, etc). The employee is occasionally required climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and / or move 10-25 pounds. No experience required. Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screening, criminal / civil background check, and motor vehicle records search. This compensation range is specific to the State of Washington and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; internal peer equity; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Gannett Fleming TranSystems, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $20-$25 / hr.
