Position Summary:
Supervises and coordinates the work of value-stream employees. The incumbent schedules, assigns and oversees all work pertaining to manufacturing; ensures that policies and procedures are followed by production personnel (leads, operators and packers). The incumbent assists in the development and implementation of processes and procedures that standardize and optimize manufacturing efficiencies.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Work other team leads to manage and prioritize staffing assignments to ensure customer demand and the production schedule are met.
  • Coordinate employee training to ensure that procedures are followed and meet all quality and safety requirements.
  • Use basic problem-solving skills to ensure stable operation of the work center.
  • Report problems or concerns with quality, processes, equipment, materials and labor to VP of MFG.
  • Work closely with support staff such as Maintenance Technicians, and Materials/Warehouse team members to resolve issues.
  • Observe and maintain standard work for assigned work center.
  • Complete quality control activities for assigned work center.
  • Update production metrics daily and facilitate regular team communication through shift report.
  • Identify and support continuous improvement efforts with other supervisors and VP of MFG.
  • Sustain and drive lean manufacturing and 5S activities.
  • Participate as an active member of the production team and manufacture products when needed.
  • Follow documented policies and procedures as designated by the company’s Quality System. Follow chain of command when making disposition decisions for quality issues, as available per : Lab/Quality Manager (primary), Lab Quality Technician, Production Supervisor, Line Leader. Director or Operations will make final dispositions if no other leader in chain of command is available.
  • Follow detailed production instructions, processes and procedures.
  • Complete required documentation relating to business or regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to facilitate manufacturing functions.
  • Conduct daily supervision of employees in assigned production area.
  • Discipline and coach employees in production area.
  • Authority to dismiss temporary staffing, communicate with KX HR and VP of MFG.
  • Authority to discipline and coach full time staffing. Firing needs clearance from VP of MFG.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility:
  • Supervise production staff daily across the shift
Education, Experience, Certifications, and Licenses:
  • Associate’s Degree and 2 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written communications.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to work with others collaboratively.
  • Strong organizational skills.
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequent lifting 55 lbs. Maximum.
  • Must be able to move about the production facility as duties require.
  • Should be able to judge distances, and detect moving and stationary objects when transporting items in order to adhere with safety requirements
  • Must be able to constantly recognize product types and safety/warning material (some small in size).
  • Constantly required to identify color coded safety & warning areas/notices (most commonly colored yellow and red and some in small print) in order to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Constantly works in an environment that includes: seasonal heat & humidity; exposure to safety areas with moving equipment; dust/dirt; noise; vibrations from equipment; lighting differences; and occasional fumes.
  • Frequently required to perform movements using the wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Frequently receives or exchanges information with management or other personnel regarding work requests or issues.
  • Must be able to identify and react to potential hazards.
